Dreamy Home in London

Dreamy Home in London
This London townhouse featured on Remodelista totally took my breath away.  To say that I have been obsessed with looking at the pictures would be an understatement.  The focus on books in the home is so unapologetically prominent.  The modern aesthetic does not mean a sacrifice of warmth or comfort, as so many modern homes tend to do.  I can see myself living in this space, and it's no secret that my goal is to have a library in my future home one day.  Enjoy!

Minnie Mortimer's Dreamy Home

Oohhh a million thanks have to go out to Julie Richard and her beautiful blog Shelter, without her I would not have seen Minnie Mortimer's beautiful home. The photos are from Vogue but I don't remember ever seeing this house. I am always a sucker for a home with beautiful bookshelves and lots of interesting books filling them! Enjoy.

Amazing!

I've written before about my favourite bookstore in Toronto, TYPE, which my sister introduced me to. It's a beautiful bookstore and reminds me of something out of an old movie like Funny Face or a newer movie like You've Got Mail. It has charm and integrity - two essential ingredients in an independent bookstore these days.

Modern Girl Style took these pictures and posted them here. Isn't it lovely??

The new Lonny Magazine website and it's design file devoted to bookshelves. Take a few minutes to explore their new and improved website. It's so much more user-friendly, and you have the opportunity to save pictures to your desktop if you want to print them or keep them for inspiration. They are also offering - gasp - a print copy of their magazine through special order!

I was supposed to be watching the US Open Men's Championship Tennis match tonight. I was so excited, having followed the very competitive and exciting tournament. However, after a disappointing rain delay yesterday, play was postponed again when the drops started to fall. By the time play resumed, television coverage slots had closed and I could only get it via radio. So I am listening to the match in the old school fashion as I simultaneously surf the web. Not too bad when I come up with a discovery such as this!

Aren't these book jackets just spectacular? Coralie Bickford-Smith is a senior cover designer at Penguin Books, and you can see more of her work by visiting her website. I have several of her Clothbound Series. I started collecting them after Kate, my sister, gave me three for Christmas a year ago. I am really over-the-moon with the F. Scott Fitzgeralds and The Penguin Poems for Love. They are going on my wish list immediately.

You can also read an interview with Coralie, via The Casual Optimist, in which she discusses the many facets of her career in design - Penguin, the books she loves, her inspirations, etc.

House of the Day

House of the Day

Every once in a while you need to see a house that creates a little merriment and wonder. This one did it for me today. It's not exactly what I would want, but is it ever beautiful.

Key loves: different styles of Eames throughout, Bertoia chairs, big bright windows, clean modern lines, open gathering spaces, lots and lots of books, mix of textures.
