Soft and Sweet Fall 2012 at Jil Sander

Soft and Sweet Fall 2012 at Jil Sander
Jil Sander's Fall 2012 RTW Collection by Raf Simons is one that keeps catching my eye in magazines this month.  Every year there are a few pieces that get plenty of editorial space.  This year, many prints and patterns are getting due attention, but the two tone coat (above and below in different shades) in this collection trumps the aforementioned pattern play in my opinion.  The billowy sleeves and the generous volume of fabric in the body create a simple fashion cocoon.  I think that this coat is something that you could have in your closet forever, that you could wear whether 20 or 65.  There is something beautiful and timeless about a well cut coat.  Below, are several more pieces that stuck out for me in this collection.  I was especially drawn to the soft knits and pale colours that were chosen when, typically, designers come out with the deep plum, green, black, brown, and red shades in droves.  Do you like soft colours in the fall?

With the September issues of various magazines, hitting the stands this week and next, you get the bonus of amazing ads that are almost as exciting as the editorial photo shoots.  Today, I saw the Fall 2012 Ferragamo ads featuring Kate Moss.  I think they are so beautiful, drawing your attention with rich tones and a little bit of mystery. I like the way Moss' hair is styled, pulled back showing off her enviable cheekbones. What do you think?

Despite the fact that I do not have a wedding on the horizon, I love looking at wedding guides.  Why?  Because there is fashion and decor in every guide and magazine.  You can look at flowers, stationary, jewelry, long dresses, short dresses, hairstyles, room decor, colour schemes, etc.  What's not to like?  Today I stumbled upon "One Fine Day" The Wedding Guide on Vogue.com and it was really fun to browse through.  Although, none of the styles were completely my taste, the photos are breathtaking.  There were 6 looks, but I didn't really care for the "rebel" look and therefore it is not included here.  Flip over to the slideshow on their website to see the rings, stationary, bridesmaid dresses, etc are for each style.  Which look is your favourite?

The Ford Focus

If you haven't already heard, Tom Ford is back. I think these photos of Mr. Ford with Stella Tennant and Karen Elson (who I first mistook as Raquel Zimmermann in this shot) are simply stunning. He is such a handsome man and a beloved talent in the fashion world. To read a very well written article about the former Gucci God taking on the fashion world once again, and entirely on his own terms, click here.

Rock Solid

Today after work I really needed a fashion fix, but alas, there weren't really any new magazines on the stands (confession of a magazine junkie). So I came home and organized a little reading pile of issues from the fall. To my delight, I stumbled upon a forgotten goldmine!

These photos of Lara Stone were featured in Vogue's September 2010 issue. Meant to evoke the feeling of a Mad Men era, Grace Coddington styled this shoot as only she can . . .resulting in near perfection. I cannot stop staring at Lara Stone. Great models not only show off the clothes, but they convey an emotion which transcends the material element of fashion and brings it up to the level of true art. She has surely accomplished that in these photographs. Enjoy!
