Fashion Copycat

I absolutely fell in love with this outfit worn by Olivia Palermo (via Habitually Chic) and I wanted to see if I could come up with a more affordable option. It's still expensive to put together if you don't have any of the pieces at home - ahem fur or faux fur vest - but it would be a fun look to try out!

Halston Heritage Faux Fur Vest via Shop Bop.

Maria high rise skinny jeans from J. Brand via Net-a-Porter.

Marc by Marc Jacobs "Grove" Sunglasses - available at Shop Bop - are part of an affordable designer line of great frame shapes, colours, and styles.

Lauren by Ralph Lauren slim leather clutch - through Bloomingdales - offers a more understated take on Olivia's larger envelope clutch . . . but for the price it works!

The Sartorialist - Fashion vs. Style

The Sartorialist - Fashion vs. Style

Great post on The Sartorialist tossing around the consideration of fashion versus style, using the photo above as his exemplar. Sometimes you can have the most beautiful, expensive, "fashionable" outfit, but it doesn't hold a candle to someone with the natural ability to put something together and wear it with the utmost confidence. Ah style. I really wish I had long legs like this beautiful woman in NYC and that I could wear a big brimmed hat like that without feeling silly. The oversized shades . . . I've got that one down.

Guy Pretty vs. Girl Pretty

The Glamour magazine blogs can be quite fantastic. My favourite thing has to be the column Guy Pretty vs. Girl Pretty. I think it's hilarious, mostly because most women (myself completely included) usually dress more in Girl Pretty thinking than Guy Pretty thinking. The two pictures above of Emma Roberts were part of the "Hair Colour" edition. Blonde, Brunette, Redhead. I loved reading the comments about redheads.

The appeal of this column is a mixture of fun and genuine curiosity. Putting it in my personal perspective: I've read Vogue since I was a teenager, I devour fashion-related anything, and so I think (in general terms) my aesthetic usually ends up being something that girls who love fashion would also gravitate towards . . . .but men might prefer a white tank and tight jeans. You know what I mean?? My main example - and the particular edition of GP vs GP that I loved the most - is oversized sunglasses. I love them and have a huge pair of Dior tortoise-shell ones that I don't leave the house without. But I never thought about what a guy would think of them. Perhaps I look like something out of a space age movie to the average man!

So here I am with my red hair and oversized sunglasses, and here is Guy Pretty vs. Girl Pretty. Happy Reading!
