Project Happiness

Project Happiness
Apartment Therapy has some great ideas about how to make yourself happier, specifically happier in your home.  A few of them I currently already do on a daily basis - make my bed, display sentimental items around my home, etc.  That being said, there are a few on the list that sometimes fall by the wayside and, when left neglected, they create a subconscious anxiety within me. It is important to recognize how the small things create either stress or relief in your life. Check it out, even just to remind yourself.

Spring Flowers, Food, Fun

These bright colours just POP in this mid-century modern home, from Style at Home. I think that at this time of year I just crave the visual appeal of brights. Photo by Angus McRitchie.

Beautiful colours in this beet salad shown on the website for Canadian House and Home magazine.

Erin McLaughlin's Traditional Modern Mix

I love this home featured in Style at Home (February 2010). It belonged to editior-in-chief Erin McLaughlin, who at the time was editor of Canadian Gardening and the defunct Canadian Home and Country.

Since the publication of these photos, McLaughlin was married and has moved from this delightful home, which she put together over the years, to a new one with her husband and step-children. Following the move, she wrote an editorial for Style at Home mentioning how much she loved this space, and I have to agree with her. She has a great mix of styles, colours, and textures going on here. I hope her beautiful things mold nicely into her new surroundings.
