TQ: Good day, McKenzie and Aren. I’m very pleased to have you virtually visit The Qwillery today. Would you each tell us a bit about yourself?
McKenzie: Thanks for having us. I’m McKenzie Lewis, a college student - or rather, a former college student now. I was getting a degree in English until he came along.
Aren: *sexy half-grin*
McKenzie: There’s not too much to say about myself. I’m pretty much a normal human except-
Aren: *snorts*
McKenzie: *glares at Aren* I would be normal except the fact that I can see and track fae. I’m a shadow-reader. Fae have the ability to travel through fissures, which are vertical slashes of white light that rip through the atmosphere. When they disappear, they leave behind shadows that twist and turn and morph into different landscapes. I draw these shadows down on paper, show them to a fae, then name the location. When I do, fae are able to fissure to that spot. That’s really the only thing that’s special about me.
Aren: McKenzie doesn’t give herself enough credit. Even if she couldn’t see or track us, she’d be unique. She’s selfless - too selfless in my opinion. She needs to put her needs before everyone else’s more often. She doesn’t because she’s loyal, and she won’t abandon her friends if she can help them.
McKenzie: You’re supposed to be introducing yourself.
Aren: I prefer talking about you.
McKenzie: Aren.
Aren: *shrugs* I’m Aren. I helped the rebels fight the king’s fae for the last few years. McKenzie here was a thorn in our side until I coaxed her into joining us.
McKenzie: Coaxed? You kidnapped me.
Aren: I was supposed to kill you.
TQ: What one word would you use to describe Aren?
McKenzie: Infuriating.
TQ: Aren, your turn. What one word would you use to describe McKenzie?
Aren: *grins* Enchanting.
TQ: Tell us something about your latest adventure, The Shattered Dark, that is not in the book description.
McKenzie: I made a lot of decisions in the first book. I have to deal with those in The Shattered Dark. I learn more about Aren, and some of the things he’s done are hard for me to accept.
TQ: So…has your author been kind to you?
McKenzie: No!
Aren: I met McKenzie. The last few months have been difficult, but I wouldn’t change a thing about them because they led me to her.
TQ: Can you let us in one what your author is up to next?
McKenzie: I hope she’s stabilizing the Realm. I’m tired of war. I want a chance at a halfway normal life, and I want the people I care about to be safe. I don’t think that’s asking for too much.
Aren: I hope for the same thing. McKenzie deserves a rest. She deserves to be happy.
TQ: Thank you both for joining us today, and thank you to Sandy Williams!
The McKenzie Lewis Series
The Shattered Dark
McKenzie Lewis 2Ace, October 30, 2012
Mass Market Paperback and eBook, 304 pages
McKenzie Lewis has a gift. It allows her access to a world few have seen, and even fewer can comprehend. It’s her secret. And it exists in the shadows…
McKenzie was a normal college student, save for one little twist: she’s a shadow reader, someone who can both see the fae and track their movements between our world and the Realm. It’s a gift for which she has been called insane, one for which she has risked family and friends—and one that has now plunged her into a brutal civil war between the fae.
With the reign of the king and his vicious general at an end, McKenzie hoped to live a more normal life while exploring her new relationship with Aren, the rebel fae who has captured her heart. But when her best friend, Paige, disappears McKenzie knows her wish is, for now, just a dream. McKenzie is the only one who can rescue her friend, but if she’s not careful, her decisions could cost the lives of everyone she’s tried so hard to save.
The Shadow Reader
McKenzie Lewis 1Ace, October 25, 2011
Mass Market Paperback and eBook, 320 pages
A Houston college student, McKenzie Lewis can track fae by reading the shadows they leave behind. For years she has been working for the fae King, tracking rebels who would claim the Realm. Her job isn't her only secret. She's in love with Kyol, the King's sword-master-but human and fae relationships are forbidden. When McKenzie is captured by Aren, the fierce rebel leader, she learns that not everything is as she thought. And McKenzie must decide who to trust and where she stands in the face of a cataclysmic civil war.
About Sandy
Sandy graduated from Texas A&M University with a double major in political science and history. She thought about attending law school. Fortunately, before handing over her life’s savings, she realized case studies weren’t nearly as interesting as novels and decided to get an MA in Library Science instead. She worked as a librarian until her husband whisked her off to London on an extended business trip. She’s now back home in Texas, writing full-time, raising newborn twin boys, and squeezing in time to play geeky board and card games like Settlers of Catan, Dominion, and Runebound.

I have to agree that Lori from The Walking Dead is really bad too. I'm kinda hoping the baby is a zombie and kills her during childbirth and I am normally not a mean or morbid person. Just love the show but am tired of her.

Great post - fun interview. I am getting a little tired of Prince Charming on Once Upon A Time (TV show)...he is a little wimpy and not very Alpha like I would think Prince Charming should be. But I will keep watching this season.

In books, Riley from The Demon Trapper's Daughter is just getting too stupid, annoying and helpless to live. And don't get me started on Sophie from the Underworld Detective Agency novels. She's become way too gross and ridiculous for my taste.
Luckily, I don't find anything infuriating about Sandy's series. Can't wait to pick up The Shattered Dark!

Infuriating, I would say there are a number of infuriating damsels in historical romances. I like the damsel in distress, but I can't stand it when they are empty headed or so impossibly ignorant. You just want to shake them!
