EA Announces Partnerships to Publish Three New Independent Games

EA Announces Partnerships to Publish Three New Independent Games

New Titles by Zoink Games, Glowmade and Hazelight Studios

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(June 8, 2019)--Today, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) and partners Zoink Games, Glowmade and Hazelight Studios announced three new promising and independent development projects coming to consoles and PC. Lost in Random is Zoink’s next game after releasing the stunning Fe, offering a unique spin on puzzles and combat. RustHeart is Glowmade’s EA Originals debut where players can forge an endearing friendship with a courageous robot hero. Hazelight’s follow up to the critically-acclaimed A Way Out™ builds on the studio’s expertise and success, with a new cooperative experience that will be named at a later date.

“We continue to connect innovative and creatively distinct new games from the best and boldest independent game makers to a global audience of players,” said Matt Bilbey, EVP Strategic Growth. “We want to offer our players the broadest, highest quality content possible, with the best access possible. Whether you join us to play EA’s biggest franchises like Apex Legends, one of the more than 200 games available from more than 85 content partners in our Origin Access subscription*, or for innovative EA Originals titles like A Way Out, we have something compelling to offer.”

EA Originals supports up-and-coming studios by showcasing unique, innovative games to more players on all platforms. Following the success of Coldwood Studios’ Unravel™, the label has built a proven track record with the BAFTA-winning A Way Out by Hazelight and Fe by Zoink, blazing the trail for games like Sea of Solitude by Jo-Mei Games launching on July 5, 2019. The success of these partnerships has expanded the collaborative charter with new independent developers, such as the recently announced RustHeart from Glowmade and new EA Partner Velan Studios for more inspiring future titles.

EA is also increasing its commitment to players by offering more quality games from some of best developers in the industry through its subscription services. With EA Access on PlayStation® 4 launching this July in addition to Xbox One and PC services, EA will offer subscriptions on more platforms than any other gaming company. EA’s Origin Access on PC gives players one of the deepest and highest rated catalogs of PC games available, featuring more than 200 games from more than 85 content partners boasting an average Metacritic score of 80. The library features games from award-winning studios like 11bit who will release Frostpunk and Moonlighter into the service later this year, to narrative-driven indie darlings like Supergiant Games’ Pyre, new releases like Tropico 6, Mutant Year Zero, Breathedge, alongside EA franchises like Battlefield and FIFA. To learn more about the content available as an Origin Access subscriber on PC, visit www.origin.com/origin-access.

Zoink Games

Zoink’s Lost in Random is another stand out fantasy action adventure from the studio that brought you the magical EA Originals title, Fe. Lost in Random brings a brand-new spin on the genre, in a blend of strategy and action that explores the notion of chance and possibility, set within a beautifully dark and vivid world.

Glowmade

A co-op Action-RPG, RustHeart follows the player and their handmade robot sidekick as they adventure across a vibrant, alien multiverse. Glowmade’s RustHeart taps into the simple joy of creating in a uniquely cooperative setting: a compelling mix of tactical action-roleplay gameplay, player invention and spray paint.

Hazelight Studios

Hazelight Studios’ continues to cement their reputation for delivering story-driven, co-operative, and highly unexpected experiences, following the success of EA Originals title, A Way Out. Returning with a completely new title, Hazelight’s unannounced game promises to give players a fresh new take on the challenges of working together.

EA to Acquire Respawn Entertainment

Leading Development Studio Brings Top Talent & Award-Winning Titanfall IP to EA’s Portfolio

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: EA) announced today an agreement to acquire Respawn Entertainment, LLC, a leading independent game development studio and creators of AAA shooter and action games including the critically-acclaimed Titanfall™ franchise. Respawn brings to EA the proven leadership and studio talent behind Titanfall and Titanfall 2, two of the most highly-rated shooter titles in the last five years. The acquisition builds on a successful publishing partnership between Respawn and EA, with multiple projects currently in development – a new title in the Titanfall franchise, a game set in the Star Wars™ universe and a VR gaming experience.

“We’ve seen firsthand the world-class caliber of Respawn as a development studio with incredible vision, deep talent and an inspiring creative mindset,” said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts. “Our longtime partnership is grounded in a shared desire to push the boundaries and deliver extraordinary and innovative new experiences for players around the world. Together, we’ve brought this to life in the Titanfall franchise, and now with the Respawn team joining EA, we have exciting plans to accomplish even more amazing things in the future.”

“We started Respawn with the goal to create a studio with some of the best talent in the industry, and to be a top developer of innovative games,” said Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment. “We felt that now was the time to join an industry leader that brings the resources and support we need for long term success, while still keeping our culture and creative freedom. EA has been a great partner over the years with Titanfall and Titanfall 2, and we’re excited to combine our strengths. This is a great next step for Respawn, EA, and our players.”

Respawn is the creator and developer of the critically-acclaimed Titanfall franchise that energized the first-person shooter genre with its innovative gameplay. The first game, Titanfall, was published by EA in 2014, and received global recognition with more than 75 top awards. Fans and critics fell in love with the game’s refreshing, fast-paced multiplayer gameplay. Respawn and EA launched Titanfall 2 in late 2016, with a new single-player campaign and expanded multiplayer gameplay, resulting in one of the year’s top-rated shooters.

Respawn will join EA’s Worldwide Studios organization, a global creative collective of leading game development studios bringing to life an unmatched portfolio of top games and services across all major platforms.

Under the agreement, EA will pay $151 million in cash, and up to $164 million in long-term equity in the form of restricted stock units to employees, which will vest over four years. In addition, EA may be required to pay additional variable cash consideration that is contingent upon achievement of certain performance milestones, relating to the development of future titles, through the end of calendar 2022. The additional consideration is limited to a maximum of $140 million. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the calendar 2017 or soon thereafter, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. The acquisition is expected to be neutral to EA’s net income in fiscal years 2018 and 2019.

EA Announces Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II

ORLANDO, Fla.--April 15, 2017 (BUSINESS WIRE)--Today at Star Wars Celebration, Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:EA), and Lucasfilm Ltd. announced that Star Wars™ Battlefront II will release on November 17, 2017 worldwide. Building upon the foundation of groundbreaking visuals and authenticity of EA’s Star Wars Battlefront, DICE, Motive and Criterion are teaming up to deliver one of the most expansive Star Wars games to date. Star Wars Battlefront II will allow players to experience the untold story of an Imperial elite special forces soldier in an all-new single player campaign. In epic multiplayer battles, players will be able to pilot a First Order TIE fighter through intense dogfights in space, and play as ground troopers or iconic heroes and villains, such as Yoda and Darth Maul, across all three Star Wars eras.

“In Star Wars Battlefront II, we all wanted to really capture the essence of being heroic and how in Star Wars, anyone can become a hero,” says Matt Webster, Executive Producer at Criterion. “Whether that’s playing as an iconic character like Rey or Luke, as a front-line trooper or fighter pilot in epic multiplayer battles, or playing through a new Star Wars story that bridges the gap between Star Wars™: Return of the Jedi™ and Star Wars™: The Force Awakens™, you will become a hero in Star Wars Battlefront II.”

Featuring new characters created by Motive in close partnership with the story group at Lucasfilm, the Star Wars Battlefront II single player campaign will deliver a new exciting story to the Star Wars universe. Taking place in the 30 years between the destruction of Death Star II and through the rise of the First Order, the single player story introduces Iden Versio, the leader of Inferno Squad, an elite special forces unit of the Galactic Empire, who are equally lethal on the ground and in space. In addition to Iden, players will also encounter and play as other iconic Star Wars heroes and villains like Luke Skywalker and Kylo Ren during the campaign.

“EA has assembled an incredible set of developers to create a Star Wars gaming experience unlike anything fans have ever experienced,” said Douglas Reilly, Senior Director, Digital & Franchise Management. “Star Wars Battlefront II will offer everything players loved about the last installment, and adds new modes that we know the fans want, including an entirely new story developed in partnership with Lucasfilm.”

“We wanted to create a campaign that told a story we haven’t seen before in Star Wars,” says Mark Thompson, Game Director at Motive Studios. “It was important for us to tell a new authentic story, one that gives players a brand-new perspective. By putting players in the boots of an elite member of the Imperial forces, we can show them what the battle was like from the other side.”

In addition to the all-new single player campaign, the team at DICE is evolving the game’s multiplayer to become the ultimate Star Wars battleground. With modes supporting up to 40 players, Star Wars Battlefront II takes fans through a wide range of iconic locations from all three eras: prequel, classic and new trilogy, including new in-game locations such as Yavin 4’s jungle canopies, the spaceport town of Mos Eisley, and Starkiller Base. Players can choose from an array of land and air vehicles and master their own hero’s journey, with customizable character progression across heroes, villains, troopers and starfighters.

As one of the most requested fan modes, galactic-scale space combat is also brought to life in Star Wars Battlefront II. Criterion, with a deep history of creating some of gaming’s fastest and intuitive vehicles, has built space combat from the ground up with refined handling, weapons, and customization options. Players can drop into the cockpit of the galaxy’s most iconic ships, weave between asteroid fields and fly through imperial dockyards in high stakes dogfights.

Fans who pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II can join the excitement of the theatrical release of Star Wars™: The Last Jedi™, with content inspired by the upcoming film including exclusive* Kylo Ren and Rey themed looks†. Players can also equip both characters with epic ability upgrades in multiplayer. Additionally, when taking the fight to space, players can upgrade to the Star Wars: The Last Jedi Millennium Falcon and a new First Order ship.

Players that order the Star Wars Battlefront II: Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition will not only have access to all the Star Wars: The Last Jedi inspired pre-order content, found in Star Wars Battlefront II: The Last Jedi Heroes, but can also dominate the battlefront as the ultimate Star Wars elite trooper. Every trooper class will receive upgrades, delivering superior firepower, deadly weapon modifications and epic combat abilities. Deluxe Edition owners will also get a head start on the battlefront, being able to jump into the game up to three days early†.

Star Wars Battlefront II will be available worldwide on November 17th, 2017 on PlayStation®4, Xbox One™, and on Origin for PC.
