Readers looking for old-school horror laden with darkness will appreciate these diverse stories from some of the best writers in the genre…all are entertaining…With new spins on classic traditions and inventive, unexpected twists, it’s the perfect spooky read for Halloween — or any night that calls for a touch of terror.”
—RT Book Reviews

“The twenty-one authors collected in this volume have…succeeded in returning vampires and their ilk back into our nightmares where they belong…each tale delivered the goods. And by goods, I mean terror…These are not your Count Dracula vampire stories, but thankfully they’re not of the friendly variety either. What they all have in common is that each and every story is a cut above the ordinary. My highest recommendation.”

Between 1
Ace, January 29, 2013
Mass Market Paperback and eBook, 304 pages

Feature: The Between Novels by Kerry Schafer
Vivian Maylor can’t sleep. Maybe it’s because she just broke up with her boyfriend and moved to a new town, or it could be the stress of her new job at the hospital. But perhaps it’s because her dreams have started to bleed through into her waking hours.

All of her life Vivian has rejected her mother’s insane ramblings about Dreamworlds for concrete science and fact, until an emergency room patient ranting about dragons spontaneously combusts before her eyes—forcing Viv to consider the idea that her visions of mythical beasts might be real.

And when a chance encounter leads her to a man she knows only from her dreams, Vivian finds herself falling into a world that seems strange and familiar all at once—a world where the line between dream and reality is hard to determine, and hard to control…

"A smart, resilient heroine, a scarred hero, dragons that are all too real and much too close, and myriad doorways that lead from a modern ER into dreams and waking and everything in Between make for a sparkling debut novel. Most enjoyable." – Carol Berg, author

Wakeworld
Between 2
Ace, January 28, 2014
Mass Market Paperback and eBook, 304 pages

Feature: The Between Novels by Kerry Schafer
Vivian Maylor is trying to hold it together. But her attempts to build a life with the man she loves seem doomed by the dragon inside her yearning to break free. Vivian is a dreamshifter, the last line of defense between reality and the dreamworld, and the only one of her kind.

Weston Jennings also believes he is the only one of his kind. He fears his powers as a dreamshifter, and resists learning to control them. After suffering a tragic loss, Weston heads deep into the woods of the Pacific Northwest to embrace a safe life of solitude. But when a terrible mistake leads to an innocent’s death, his guilt drives him to his former home, where he encounters what he never thought he would find: another shifter.

Now Vivian and Weston must work together to defeat a new threat to the dreamworld.

"Rising star Schafer continues to advance an elaborate mythology that places her heroine at the intersection of worlds. Schafer proves densely plotted and emotionally charged storytelling is definitely her forte!" – RT Magazine

Wakeworld is a fine adventure. Kerry Schafer gives us heroes we can root for and a world that twists and turns like an Escher print so that nothing is quite what it seems.” – Anne Bishop, author

“Schafer brings a unique voice to urban fantasy, and her writing has a dreamlike, magical quality. A captivating read, a real page-turner!” – Yasmine Galenorn, author

Kerry recently unveiled the cover for The Nothing...

Feature: The Between Novels by Kerry Schafer
Vivian has one chance to save the worlds, and it could cost her everything.

In The Nothing, the third and final book of the Between Trilogy, a mysterious illness is killing healthy people in their sleep. While doctors and world leaders scramble to determine the source of the mysterious epidemic, Vivian Maylor travels through an increasingly unstable Between on a quest to stop it. She already knows the source of the disaster: Aidan the dragon queen has poisoned the dreamworlds. Every time a dreamworld dies, any dreamer caught up in that dream dies too. Much as Vivian despises the dark magic of the Sorcieri, they hold the secrets she needs to be able to pursue Aidan through the locked gates into the Forever. She has one chance to save the worlds—if she can persuade the Sorcieri to share their secrets, and if she is willing to sacrifice everything she loves…

A message from Kerry about The Nothing...

A Chance to be Part of the Story…

An unfinished series is a very sad thing. As a reader I am devastated when I finish a book and there isn't another one and the story hasn't yet ended. It reminds me of the time I bought a book and for some reason the last page was missing. There I sat, holding that book in my hands and screaming inside, "But I don't know what happened!!!"

When I started writing a trilogy I made a promise to my readers that I would finish what I started. And I intend to do that. Ace Books has opted not to pick up The Nothing so I'm going to publish it independently. However, I would like for the quality of the last book to be at the same level as the first two and good editors don't come cheap.

For all of these reasons, I'm running a Kickstarter to help give The Nothing a chance to find its way to more readers. If you would like to be part of this—either by backing the project or spreading the word—you can read all about it at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/574989945/the-nothing-is-comingdream-if-you-dare

Feature: Star Wars: Imperial Handbook by Daniel Wallace

Star Wars: Imperial Handbook
becker&meyer!, October 14, 2014
Hardcover, Deluxe Edition, 160 pages

Feature: Star Wars: Imperial Handbook by Daniel Wallace
The Empire has taken hold of the galaxy. Soon, with the completion of the Death Star, its control will be absolute. To prepare for the influx of military personnel required to complete this phase of the Emperor’s plan, elite Imperial officers have outlined the processes, protocols, and hierarchy each newly-promoted Imperial Commander must carry out to fulfill the Emperor’s vision.

Star Wars®: Imperial Handbook: A Commander’s Guide is written by top Imperial officers from the Imperial Army, Navy, and Stormtrooper Corps. It provides a comprehensive overview of the Imperial war machine—from coordination between the various military branches to Imperial battle tactics, mission reports, and equipment supply chains—and its role within the Emperor’s long-term plan for galactic domination.

Following the Battle of Endor, this copy of Imperial Handbook fell into the hands of the Rebel Alliance. Through handwritten notes left in margins, leaders for the Rebel Alliance, such as Princess Leia, General Madine, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker provide a running counter-commentary to the official Imperial propaganda.

Housed in a protective case that opens with lights and sounds, this never-before-seen Imperial Handbook is perfect for Star Wars® fans—no matter which side of the rebellion they’re on.

From the Press Release:

This fall, just in time for the holiday season, Lucasfilm™ announces the release of STAR WARS: IMPERIAL HANDBOOK, the latest artifact to come from INSIDE the STAR WARS™ universe. From the book producers who unearthed THE JEDI PATH and BOOK OF SITH comes the newest book from a galaxy, far, far away . . . . a guide for Commanders of the Imperial Military.

The Empire has taken hold of the galaxy. Soon, with the completion of the Death Star, its control will be absolute. In preparation for this Imperial expansion, high-ranking officials from each branch of the Imperial military have set down tactical guidelines and procedures as well as collected mission reports and classified documents for all newly ascending commanders.

In the wake of the Battle of Endor, members of the Rebel Alliance intercepted this top-secret instructional manual and have circulated it among their own commanders, who have added notes and commentary in the margins.

Housed in a protective case, this rare glimpse into the military governance and philosophy of the Empire offers a unique perspective for those on both sides of the rebellion.

The STAR WARS: IMPERIAL HANDBOOK Deluxe Edition produced by becker&mayer! Books in collaboration with Lucasfilm Ltd., New York Times bestselling author Daniel Wallace, and celebrated STAR WARS illustrators, takes fans inside the world of the Imperial military.

"Imperial Handbook continues the legacy of STAR WARS books originating within the universe. This closely guarded handbook bears witness to the core philosophies and flawed practices for the Imperial military. With handwritten annotations from Rebel Alliance leaders, such as Princess Leia, Han Solo, and Wedge Antilles, and a one-of-a-kind Imperial Order of Glory medal, Imperial Handbook delivers a galaxy far, far away straight into your hands," says J.W. Rinzler, executive editor at Lucasfilm.

To heighten the drama of the text’s backstory, STAR WARS: IMPERIAL HANDBOOK Deluxe Edition is housed within a sleek mechanical case. With the touch of a button, the top of the case slides open accompanied by lights and authentic STAR WARS sounds, revealing the book within.
...

The 160-page collection has a cover featuring a spot UV design, embossing and foil stamping, as well as a Rebel Alliance artifact registration card. Housed beneath the book is an Imperial Order of Glory medal. The book’s elegant design showcases more than 85 original illustrations by acclaimed STAR WARS artists including Chris Trevas, Chris Reiff, Joe Corroney, John Van Fleet, Maciej Rebisz, Russell Walks, and Velvet Engine Studio.
...

“In-world” authors:
Imperial writers: Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, High General Cassio Tagge, Admiral Wullf Yularen, Admiral Conan Antonio Motti, and TX-5532

Rebel Alliance annotators: Jan Dodonna, General Madine, General Rieekan, Wedge Antilles, Leia Organa, Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Mon Mothma.

In addition to making many contributions to the galaxy far, far away, he has written for universes including Indiana Jones, Smallville, Supernatural, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics.

When the half-demon Carter approaches Menolly and her sisters desperately asking for their help, they think he’s just had a tiff with Shimmer, his blue dragon girlfriend.

But after talking to Alex Radcliffe, the owner of the Fly By Night Magical Investigations Agency where Shimmer works, they suspect that she has been kidnapped by an old enemy of Alex’s.

Now, Alex must join forces with the D’Artigo sisters in a desperate race to find Shimmer before Julian, a powerful vampire from Alex’s past with a grudge to settle, can use the dragon to wreak havoc on Seattle as revenge.

"Next summer, in the Fly By Night series, you'll meet new characters and have new adventures, but each book will have Yasmine's signature depth and edge. Answering questions about the similarities and differences between the two series, Yasmine recently posted this on her blog:
  1. They ARE both set in the same universe/same city/same time.
  2. The Fly By Night Series is NOT just another venue for the D’Artigo Sisters. The focus will be on Alex and Shimmer—there will be crossover of minor characters, but the two series are definitely their own and Fly By Night belongs to Alex and Shimmer.
  3. The Fly By Night Series will be from Shimmer’s viewpoint, and she and Alex hang out in vastly different circles than the D’Artigo sisters overall.
  4. FLIGHT FROM HELL is an OTHERWORLD novella that introduces Alex and Shimmer to you—here, the characters do interact but the Fly By Night Series will be focused on the Fly By Night world.
  5. Fly By Night is more of a mystery/thriller series. I’ll give you these spoilers:
  • Alex and Shimmer are not privy to the demonic war going on.
  • The FBN books will be more standalone. While the characters will evolve, there’s not all that much of an overwhelming series arc.
  • The FBN gang is a little more humorous, though the series is not really ‘lighter’ than Otherworld.

Click on the FLIGHT FROM HELL cover above to see its info page on Yasmine's site (with excerpt and playlist). And each of the covers below will take you to their individual pages. Now is a perfect time to get to know the Otherworld series, or catch up where you left off!!
