The Ludocrats - Jamie McKelvie Cover!

The Ludocrats - Jamie McKelvie Cover!
UNBELIEVABLE JAMIE MCKELVIE COVER FOR THE LUDOCRATS REVEALED

The Ludocrats - Jamie McKelvie Cover!

PORTLAND, Ore. 03/04/2020 — Image Comics is pulsating ominously as it reveals a Ludocrats #1 cover B featuring reality-warping artwork from Jamie McKelvie (The Wicked + The Divine, forthcoming The Killing Horizon), which will be available with the series launch from Image Comics this April.

When asked to comment the cover, McKelvie didn't say "this is the greatest comic I've ever seen. It's better than anything I've done." McKelvie didn't continue, "I wish Kieron would ask me for quotes, but we only speak via Lawyers now WicDiv is over. It's a tragic breakdown of a friendship." When asked to comment, Gillen said: "Talk to my lawyer."

Ludocrats #1 by bestselling writer Kieron Gillen (Die, The Wicked + The Divine), writer Jim Rossignol (Sir, You Are Being Hunted), and artist Jeff Stokely (The Spire) with colorist Tamra Bonvillain (Once & Future) is a gleefully bizarre five issue, fantasy miniseries that thinks there's more gold in the hills mined by I Hate Fairyland and they can uncover it with illegally acquired Python-infused explosives.

In short: The Ludocrats! The aristocrats of ludicrous! A collision of the ornate fantasy of Dune and an M-rated Asterix & Obelix! Baron Otto Von Subertan and Professor Hades Zero-K are here, and they're going to save us all have a nice time.

Ludocrats #1 Cover A by Stokely (Diamond Code FEB200052) and Ludocrats #1 Cover B by McKelvie (Diamond Code JAN208731) will be available at comic book shops on April Fool’s Day—Wednesday, April 1. Not joking.

DIE, New Series from Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans

DIE, New Series from Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans
GAMEMASTERS KIERON GILLEN & STEPHANIE HANS ROLL OUT ALL-NEW SERIES IN DIE

PORTLAND, OR, 09/12/2018 — Writer and co-creator of bestselling and Eisner Award-nominated THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, Kieron Gillen teams up with highly sought-after artist Stephanie Hans in an all-new, ongoing series titled DIE. The series will launch with an oversized debut issue from Image Comics this December.

DIE is a pitch-black fantasy where a group of adults have to deal with the returning unearthly horror they barely survived as teenage role-players.

Perfect for fans of THE WICKED + THE DIVINE’s urban fantasy, DIE can best be described as Jumanji with goth sensibilities.

“It's worryingly zeitgeisty. Role-playing games are part of the cultural conversation in a way they haven't been since the 1980s,” said Gillen in an exclusive interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I suspect DIE is going to sit a little apart from most of it, especially the comics. Most of the D&D comics either are straight satires or leaning into the fun and games of those memories. We're a lot bleaker. It's me, so it's still playful, but I take fantasy games as seriously as I take pop music and this is a product of that.”

Hans similarly has experience in playing Role-Playing Games (RPGs) and likened the collaboration and creative process of building out the world of DIE to them. “I always think that working as a team is like a dance. You have to trust your partner while he does the same. Funny enough, I see panels as music notes,” Hans told The Hollywood Reporter. “But in this one, Kieron is a lot like the gamemaster, I trust him to build a beautiful narrative while I do the gesticulation. Worth mentioning: when I was still role-playing, I used to describe an RPG as a beautiful story that you create as a group. In a way, we have come full circle.”

DIE #1 Cover A by Hans (Diamond Code OCT180012) and DIE #1 Cover B by Jamie McKelvie (Diamond Code OCT180013) will be available on Wednesday, December 5th.

24 PANELS Anthology Will Benefit the Survivors of the Grenfell Fire

24 PANELS Anthology Will Benefit the Survivors of the Grenfell Fire
24 PANELS Anthology will feature contributions from Alan Moore, Kieron Gillen & more, will benefit survivors of Grenfell fire

PORTLAND, OR, 08/21/2018 — Image Comics is pleased to announce the forthcoming 24 PANELS Anthology, curated by New York Times bestselling creator Kieron Gillen (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, PHONOGRAM) with co-editor Steve Thompson, and featuring work from some of the most celebrated storytellers and artists in the industry. As The Guardian reported yesterday in an exclusive scoop, this charity anthology will benefit the survivors of the Grenfell fire.

In June 2017, the Grenfell fire killed 72 people in a 24-story tower block in West London. 24 PANELS is an anthology comic to support the PTSD needs of the survivors. The 24 PANELS Anthology will be comprised of 24 stories, each no longer than 24 panels. Half drawn from professional creators who volunteered their time and half drawn from open submissions, 24 PANELS is about community, hope, and (most of all) raising as much money as possible.

“These works are powerful but not saccharine… It’s an anthology in support of a traumatised society, so there is a limit to how dark you would want to go,” said Gillen in an interview about 24 PANELS with The Guardian. “It can’t be triggering. It has a theme of what trauma does, how it’s survived, how community works and generally hope. There’s stories that are intensely moving, but even so, they’re intensely life-affirming. It’s as varied as London itself.”

Al Ewing, Alan Moore, Alex de Campi, Antony Johnston, Caspar Wijngaard, Dan Watters, Dilraj Mann, Doug Braithwaite, Gavin Mitchell, Laurie Penny, Leigh Alexander, Lizz Lunney, Melinda Gebbie, Paul Cornell, Rachael Smith, Ram V, Robin Hoelzemann, Rosy Higgins, Sara Kenney, Sarah Gordon, Ted Brandt, Tom Humberstone, Tula Lotay, and more will contribute to 24 PANELS.

Thompson added: “I took on this project because I'd seen before the power of asking creators to come together and give their time to help people. I have seen that translate into money that can make a real difference to those experiencing trauma and wanted 24 Panels to do all that while being about community and hope first and foremost. Kieron was the first person we spoke to from a long list of potential people to spearhead the project and he accepted right away which shows, I think, that he recognised that this project was important and could raise spirits as well as much-needed funds.”

24 PANELS (Diamond Code SEP180079, ISBN: 978-1-5343-1126-8) will be available in comic book stores on Wednesday, November 21st. The final order cutoff for comics retailers is Monday, October 8th.

It will be available in bookstores on Tuesday, November 27th and can be pre-ordered at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and Indigo.
