MIYAZAKI-ESQUE SPACE ADVENTURE SEA OF STARS, VOL. 1 SET TO HIT STORES FROM IMAGE COMICS THIS JANUARY 2020

“There is a genuine earnestness on each page. Aaron and Hallum treat their leads with respect and build a believable father-son relationship. The dialogue is smart and doesn't rely on massive exposition dumps...The story is lean without feeling hollow.”
—Comic Book Resources

“Delivers some jaw-dropping action and twists before the final page.” —ComicBook.com

Being a space trucker may sound like a cool job, but in reality it can be boring as hell. In Sea of Stars, Vol. 1 a recently widowed Gil gets a long-haul gig across the universe, he figures it’s safe enough to bring his young son Kadyn along for the ride. But when their “big rig” gets bitten in half by a gigantic Space Leviathan, Gil is separated from his young son—with a breached suit that’s venting oxygen at an alarming rate. He’ll have to defy the odds and stay alive long enough to rescue Kadyn. But Kadyn seems to be getting all the help he needs from a talking Space Monkey riding a Space Dolphin… or maybe it’s the strange powers he’s suddenly manifesting.

MIKE MIGNOLA COVER REVEALED FOR JASON AARON, DENNIS HALLUM, AND STEPHEN GREEN’S NEW SCI-FI EPIC SEA OF STARS

PORTLAND, OR 05/10/2019 — Image Comics is pleased to reveal a special Mike Mignola (Hellboy) cover forSea of Stars #1 Mignola cover the forthcoming Sea of Stars by Jason Aaron (Southern Bastards, Thor), Dennis Hallum (Cloak & Dagger, Vader: Dark Visions), Stephen Green (Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.), and Rico Renzi (Spider-Gwen), an ongoing series launching from Image Comics this July.

When recently widowed Gil gets a long-haul gig across the universe, he figures it’s safe enough to bring his young son Kadyn along for the ride—that is, until their “big rig” gets bitten in half by a gigantic Space Leviathan! Sea of Stars follows Gil, now separated from his son—with a breached suit that’s venting oxygen at an alarming rate—as he struggles to defy the odds and stay alive long enough to rescue Kadyn. But meanwhile, Kadyn seems to be getting all the help he needs from a talking Space Monkey riding a Space Dolphin… or maybe it’s the strange powers he’s suddenly manifesting…?

As Hallum told Deadline, “Jason and I talked about co-writing a story for years, but our sensibilities are so different it never clicked. He had an adventure story about a little boy swimming through the stars. I wanted to turn it into an ice-truck driver who’s kid goes missing in the arctic. Our brains just wouldn’t line up. Instead of compromising, we decided Stephen could pull off both stories at the same time.”

Sea of Stars is a brand-new science fiction series with all the scope and heart of the The Neverending Story crossed with the imaginative weirdness of Miyazaki and promises an intense, galaxy-spanning adventure perfect for fans of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s Descender.

Sea of Stars #1 Cover A by Green (Diamond Code MAY190023) and Sea of Stars #1 Cover B by Mignola (Diamond Code MAY190024) will be available on Wednesday, July 3. The final order cutoff deadline for comics retailers is this Monday, June 10.

RUMBLE Variants for Black History Month from Image Comics

RUMBLE Variants for Black History Month from Image Comics

LINE OF RUMBLE COVERS REVEALED IN TIME FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Will feature artwork by Keith Pollard, Arvell Jones, Ron Wilson, Chris Brunner, and Sanford Greene

PORTLAND, OR 02/05/2019 — Image Comics is pleased to reveal a very special line of Rumble variant covers in time for Black History Month. These covers will kick off the new story arc with Rumble #11 by John Arcudi and David Rubín and will feature artwork by Keith Pollard, Arvell Jones, Ron Wilson, Chris Brunner, and Sanford Greene.

“There’s such a rich history of African Americans working in comics, but it seems to me not enough people know about it. ‘Okay, then maybe Image and I could help out with that a bit,’ was my thinking when I came up with this tribute series of variants,” said Arcudi. “And luckily, Keith Pollard, Arvell Jones, and Ron Wilson were willing to help us out with their tribute variants—homages, in fact, to their own vintage comics covers. We followed their great covers up with two homages to Black comics' pioneers Matt Baker and A.C. Hollingsworth, done by Chris Brunner and Sanford Greene respectively. Altogether, the series came out pretty great as a kind of visual history of African American cartoonists in comic books.”

In Rumble #11, strange forces have unleashed the Four Scourge Knights of the Apocalypse, and somehow, Bobby LaRosa is mankind’s only hope.

Rumble #11 Cover A (B&W by Rubín, Diamond Code: FEB190190) and Rumble #11 Cover B (pencils by Pollard, inks by Kevin Nowlan, colors by Dave Stewart, Diamond Code: FEB190191) will be available in comic shops on Wednesday, April 17. The final order cutoff deadline for comic shop retailers is Monday, March 25.

Rumble #12 Cover A (B&W by Rubín) and Rumble #12 Cover B (pencils by Jones, inks by Kevin Nowlan, colors by Dave Stewart) will be available in comic shops on Wednesday, May 22.

Rumble #13 Cover A (B&W by Rubín) and Rumble #13 Cover B (pencils by Wilson, inks by Bill Sienkiewicz, colors by Dave Stewart) will be available in comic shops in June.

Rumble #14 Cover A (B&W by Rubín) and Rumble #14 Cover B (pencils & inks by Brunner, colors by Rico Renzi) will be available in comic shops in July.
