“Incredibly entertaining.” —Entertainment Weekly

"Historical fiction mixes with supernatural horror, producing a hybrid fantasy world of voodoo spells, mad science, monster Klansmen, and Jazz Age demon hunters wielding steampunk versions of Ghostbusters proton packs... Comics fans will look forward to future volumes of this energetic dark fantasy that effectively mixes thrills and scares." —Publishers Weekly

"Relentless action...a kinetic style." —Library Journal

"The comic is by an all-black creative team and features a predominantly black cast of characters in the 1920s—embracing the black artistic creativity of the Harlem Renaissance but also recognizing the racism of the time." —The Washington Post

"The tragedy and family drama at the heart of Image Comics’ new series Bitter Root may be the most traditional thing about a comic that is, at heart, anything but traditional." —The Hollywood Reporter

“A comic with a clear message, it never feels overtly moralizing, but simply an education as stark and brutal as the rad-as-hell monster-fighting horror that plays out in as the family goes about its work.” —io9

"Puts a monstrous face on bigotry and a beautiful new spin on the Harlem Renaissance." —The Onion's AV Club

"Confident in itself and doesn't need to rely on overwrought high-concept themes. Bitter Root isn't afraid to tackle weighty issues while still having some fun, giving us some new heroes that are much needed in today's world." —ComicBook.com

RUMBLE Variants for Black History Month from Image Comics

RUMBLE Variants for Black History Month from Image Comics

LINE OF RUMBLE COVERS REVEALED IN TIME FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH
Will feature artwork by Keith Pollard, Arvell Jones, Ron Wilson, Chris Brunner, and Sanford Greene

PORTLAND, OR 02/05/2019 — Image Comics is pleased to reveal a very special line of Rumble variant covers in time for Black History Month. These covers will kick off the new story arc with Rumble #11 by John Arcudi and David Rubín and will feature artwork by Keith Pollard, Arvell Jones, Ron Wilson, Chris Brunner, and Sanford Greene.

“There’s such a rich history of African Americans working in comics, but it seems to me not enough people know about it. ‘Okay, then maybe Image and I could help out with that a bit,’ was my thinking when I came up with this tribute series of variants,” said Arcudi. “And luckily, Keith Pollard, Arvell Jones, and Ron Wilson were willing to help us out with their tribute variants—homages, in fact, to their own vintage comics covers. We followed their great covers up with two homages to Black comics' pioneers Matt Baker and A.C. Hollingsworth, done by Chris Brunner and Sanford Greene respectively. Altogether, the series came out pretty great as a kind of visual history of African American cartoonists in comic books.”

In Rumble #11, strange forces have unleashed the Four Scourge Knights of the Apocalypse, and somehow, Bobby LaRosa is mankind’s only hope.

Rumble #11 Cover A (B&W by Rubín, Diamond Code: FEB190190) and Rumble #11 Cover B (pencils by Pollard, inks by Kevin Nowlan, colors by Dave Stewart, Diamond Code: FEB190191) will be available in comic shops on Wednesday, April 17. Bitter Root Coming from Image Comics in 2018

Bitter Root Coming from Image Comics in 2018
KILLING IS ONE THING… CURING IS ANOTHER IN THE FORTHCOMING BITTER ROOT

Image Comics is pleased to announce at this year’s Rose City Comic Con an all-new ongoing series from David Walker, Chuck Brown, and Sanford Greene that will launch in 2018 titled, BITTER ROOT.

BITTER ROOT is set in 1920s with the Harlem Renaissance in full swing. The new series will follow the Sangerye Family—New York (and the world’s) only hope for salvation from supernatural forces threatening doom and destruction. Once the greatest family of monster hunters in the world, the Sangeryes must move beyond the tragedies of the past, or be forced to sit back and watch an unimaginable evil ravage the human race.

Bitter Root is going to be unlike any comic book people have seen,” said Walker. “We're mixing action and horror, with a cast of characters unique to the medium to tell an epic tale of the Sangerye family and the sacrifices they are willing to make for humanity. I'm excited for this series for several reasons. It gives me the chance to work with Sanford again, Chuck, who is a great co-writer, and Image, which publishes some absolutely amazing comics."

Brown added: "Bitter Root is a dream project. Walker, Greene, and I share the same tastes while bringing our own unique talents and perspectives to the book. Bitter Root takes a classic horror genre and remolds it into something new and eye opening. I haven’t had this much fun creating comics in awhile."

BITTER ROOT #1 from Image Comics will hit stores in 2018.
