Please welcome Stacey Kennedy to The Qwillery's as part of the
Authors After Dark Author Spotlight Interviews.
TQ: What inspired you become a writer?
Stacey: Reading is the simplest answer. When I had my first child, I spent a lot of time reading since all she did was nap for the first five months of her life. And even after that, I had four hours a day to myself, and well…got bored. So, I started reading. And by reading, I mean a lot.
I cannot even say how many paranormal romance books I read in the first year of her life. It was through all that reading that my own idea for a world developed and what led me to write. That story you’ll see releases in the Summer of 2013, WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED.
Once I wrote that first story, the itch started and it’s never stopped. It’s been a whirlwind since my first book came out in 2010, and now with close to thirty books out in the world it’s shocking even to me.
TQ: What is the most challenging thing for you about writing?
Grammar, no doubt about it. I’ve never taken a writing course, or editing course, which I probably should have. I think it would’ve saved me many migraines. But I’ve learned grammar through working with my editors. Still to this day, I have a hate relationship with the comma that I just can’t seem to sort out.
So, while story telling comes easy for me, I struggle with making my manuscripts polished. I learn something new every day, and continue to work my butt off to see that I’m becoming better at grammar.
It’s a daily battle!
TQ: What writing achievement are you most proud of?
Stacey: It’d have to be the release of WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED. It’s more thrilling than I can say that my books will be coming out in mass market. I’ve written ebooks for a while now, and even that is so exciting and something I’m proud of. But to see a book of mine in a book store will be a pretty fantastic moment.
I think more so too because it was the first book I ever wrote. The one I had dreams of being in paperback will come true. So that’s very exciting!
TQ: What one thing should everyone know about your writing?
Stacey: I write with humor. Always. I suppose that’s part of my personality, but I really try to take things as light as I can. Get through the tough times with a sense of humor because it just makes things easier. So, that side of me tends to come out in my writing.
I love putting my heroines in embarrassing situations—that we’ve all been through—and allow them to experience those humorous moments in their lives. While, I love dark, dangerous times where my heroines are in the fight of their lives, and even sexy times too, I think any sane person would need some laughter to keep going. It keeps it real to me, and my heroines are always real women who deal with things we all do.
TQ: Please tell us about your latest and upcoming works.
Stacey: My latest release is DEMONICALLY TEMPTED, the second book in the Frostbite series. It’s one of my favorite series to write because of a ghost named Kipp! I never thought I’d fall so head over heels in lust for a ghost, but it’s happened. Plus, Tess is such a fun character to write. Her snark, big heart, and overall attitude are a hoot!

Tess Jennings, now a member of the Memphis Police Department, is on her first cold case. The suspected suicide of Lizbeth Knapp ten years ago, isn’t a theory her family accepts—they believe she was murdered.
But the case is only one of Tess’s worries. Ghosts are talking and word of her abilities rapidly spreads. A ghost has them scared, and they want her to force the spirit to crossover.
Tess, though, doesn’t have to do this alone. Not only does she have her lover, Kipp McGowen—a ghost—but the department has brought in a medium. Dane Wolfe might answer all her questions, but he also brings a world of trouble. Will Tess finally have all she’s ever wanted, or will everything she’s vowed to protect be ripped away?
TQ: Thank you for joining us at The Qwillery.
Stacey: Thanks so much for taking the time to chat with me! It’s been a pleasure!! :-)
