Issue #13 kicks off a new story arc

PORTLAND, Ore. 10/21/2019 — The New York Times bestselling, Eisner Award winning creative team that MOONSHINE Returns This Novemberredefined the crime genre with 100 Bullets—Brian Azzarello (Batman: Damned, Faithless) and artist Eduardo Risso—are back to kick off an all-new story arc of Moonshine from Image Comics this November.

With the help of his girlfriend Delia, “Torpedo” Lou Pirlo made it to New Orleans in search of a cure for his werewolf curse. In Moonshine #13 however readers learn that curse cures cost money, and Lou is a little “light” on scratch. But if there’s one thing Lou can do, it’s hustle. So he’s off to work his way from the crookedest gutters to the swankiest gambling dens in The Big Easy—along the way crossing paths with witches, warlocks, and the occasional zombie.

Set during Prohibition, and deep in the backwoods of Appalachia, Moonshine tells the story of Lou Pirlo, a city-slick “torpedo” sent from New York City to negotiate a deal with the best moonshiner in West Virginia, one Hiram Holt. What Lou doesn’t figure on is that Holt is just as cunning and ruthless as any NYC crime boss. Because not only will Holt do anything to protect his illicit booze operation, he’ll stop at nothing to protect a much darker family secret...a bloody, supernatural secret that must never see the light of day… or better still, the light of the full moon.

Select praise for Moonshine:

“Damn near perfect. 5 out of 5!” —Nerdist

“An engrossing, tightly plotted introduction to their latest creator-owned saga.” —IGN

“Shows Azzarello at what he does best, kicking ass and taking names… You won’t be disappointed.” —Fangoria

“When a blockbuster creative team reunites to work on a new project, the results are often magic. That is the case in Moonshine.” —TFAW.com blog

“As darkly beautiful and engrossing as you'd expect from Azzarello & Risso…with a kick as strong as the best corn liquor.” —Jason Aaron

"Azzarello and Risso go for the jugular with Moonshine's bloody tale of bootleggers, gangsters, and monsters both human and inhuman. But the silver bullet here is Risso's elegant use of color. Already a master of black and white, he somehow makes his art even creepier and more unsettling.” —Cliff Chiang

"The moody and tense storytelling Azzarello and Risso got famous for in 100 Bullets only increases with Moonshine. And with Risso doing his own coloring, his art has never been more seductive. More addictive than forbidden booze.” —Fábio Moon

"Moonshine delivers the goods, gets the readers hooked and craving for more. Azzarello and Risso did it again!”  —Gabriel Bá

“Incredible art and writing from two of the best creators in comics. Plus two of my favourite subjects… booze and werewolves all in one book! A winner!” —Tula Lotay

“A dark and unrelenting story that will suck you into another time and place. It’s Miller's Crossing meets Deliverance. Azzarello and Risso bring the goods as they always do!” —Amy Chu

Moonshine by Azzarello & Risso for Image Comics is a book that makes me wish I had thought of it first!! RECOMMENDED!”  —Francisco Francavilla

THE KILLING HORIZON Coming in Summer 2020

THE KILLING HORIZON Coming in Summer 2020
HOT OFF THE WICKED + THE DIVINE FINALE, JAMIE McKELVIE SET TO LAUNCH THE KILLING HORIZON FROM IMAGE COMICS THIS SUMMER

PORTLAND, Ore. 10/10/2019 — THE KILLING HORIZON is the explosive new sci-fi vision from Jamie THE KILLING HORIZON Coming in Summer 2020McKelvie, co-creator of the bestselling, award-winning THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, and Eisner Award winning colorist Matthew Wilson (THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, PAPER GIRLS), launching from Image Comics in Summer 2020.

The project sees McKelvie return to writing for the first time in a decade, after establishing himself as both a popular artist of comics such as YOUNG AVENGERS and designer of iconic superheroes including Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel and Loki.

THE KILLING HORIZON takes place in the post-post-apocalyptic future. Far from Earth, a specialist in studying dead alien societies is embedded with a military unit to excavate a new find. She’s done it before. It’s good work and it’s safe. She thinks it’s just another job.

She’s wrong.

Lost and alone, deep beneath the warped, skeletal spires of the millennia-dead city, she finds something powerful. Something unlike anything any human has ever known. Something that needs her to take it on a journey no living being has ever taken. Something that will make her a target for every side fighting a deadly war. It calls to her.

She answers.

In an exclusive interview with io9 at New York Comic Con, McKelvie, already known for pushing the limits of comic book storytelling, talked about what makes this project so exciting: “The canvas becomes vast and that’s more than a little bit scary for me. Humans are humans, cars are cars, you can generally recognize that a tree is a tree. Those boundaries vanish when you’re doing a story like this. With such a drastic change of setting, storytelling possibilities expand out in all sorts of different directions. There’s a sequence I’m really excited about drawing that arose from a quandary: how do I approach this moment/image on the page? The story possibilities spill out into the “storytelling” possibilities and that’s got me buzzing.”

Joining the established partnership of McKelvie and Wilson are letterer Aditya Bidikar (THE WHITE TREES, LITTLE BIRD, designer Cecile Richard and editor Katie West.

THE KILLING HORIZON is a space opera comic inspired by the works of Iain Banks, Ann Leckie, Michael Moorcock, and Yoon Ha Lee and is perfect for fans of Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen’s  Descender, Jason Aaron, Dennis Hallum, and Stephen Green’s  Sea of Stars, and Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples’ Saga.

Fresh off of GIDEON FALLS' high-profile win for "Best New Series" at the 2019 Eisner Awards, Wan will executive produce the hour-long horror drama alongside Atomic Monster's Michael Clear, Hivemind's Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, Kathy Lingg and Dinesh Shamdasani, and original series creators Lemire and Sorrentino. Fans of GIDEON FALLS, rest assured: We have some incredible surprises yet in store."

Acquired by Hivemind following an intense, multi-party bidding war, GIDEON FALLS marks a major new addition to the company's quickly expanding roster of film and television projects, which currently includes Netflix's hotly anticipated adaptation of THE WITCHER fantasy franchise starring Henry Cavill and Amazon's acclaimed science-fiction series THE EXPANSE, which was recently renewed for a fifth season in advance of the fourth's debut. The company is also currently producing the upcoming feature film BLOODSHOT, starring Vin Diesel and based on the best-selling Valiant comic book series, for Sony Pictures.

Gaines; and the first live-action adaptation of FINAL FANTASY, based the multibillion-dollar video game franchise, in partnership with Square Enix and Sony Pictures Television.

SLOW CITY BLUES Coming in February 2020

SLOW CITY BLUES Coming in February 2020
COMIC BOOK INDUSTRY LEGEND JIM SHOOTER BRINGS NEW TITLE SLOW CITY BLUES TO IMAGE COMICS

SLOW CITY BLUES Coming in February 2020
ABOVE: interior artwork from the forthcoming Slow City Blues.

PORTLAND, Ore. 09/24/2019 — Image Comics is thrilled to announce an all-new, ongoing genre-bending series by writer Samuel Haine, SLOW CITY BLUES Coming in February 2020penciler Shawn Moll, inker John Livesay, colorist JD Smith, and letterer Thomas Mauer, who have teamed up with comic book industry icon Jim Shooter for—Slow City Blues—set to launch February 2020.

"This is a dream come true. I would have never imagined in a million years that the fantastical world of Slow City Blues, that I came up with while I was slingin’ beers as a bartender, would be brought to life by the caliber of talent Livesay brought together. I could gush about our team for hours if you let me! I mean for cryin' out loud, I get to work with Jim Shooter. JIM FREAKIN' SHOOTER! He’s been instrumental in helping us realize a rich world full of kooky, complex characters and deep emotional resonance. Not to mention that he and Livesay were able to convince some of the greatest artists of all time to do covers for the book,” said Haine. “It's a surreal feeling being able to put your very first comic book out into the world through a publisher as prolific as Image. A lot of blood, sweat, tears, and love have gone into these books, and I’m so grateful to everybody involved. It’s been one hell of a wild ride and I am very excited to have the opportunity to share it with everyone!"

Slow City Blues brings you everything you crave in a comic book: action, adventure, suspense, fantasy, tragedy, and plenty of humor. The story is focused on Detective John Loris, who gets trapped inside his imagination after accidentally killing a little girl in the line of duty. After trying to take his own life, John instead ends up in Slow City, a construct of his mind’s eye, a place where anything and everything is possible, except a way out.

Livesay added: “I read the story, I knew it was good, so I figured the best idea was to bring in the best talent.”

John Loris is both revered and reviled as The Creator, but in Slow City, even God is just another slob. So, he does the only thing he knows how: Be a cop. But times are changing and the wheels in his mind are in motion. And now, John and his partner, a six foot six, smart-ass skunk, must solve a double homicide and bring the killer to justice before a gang war between the Gorillas of the Devil's Backbone and the Dragons of the Midnight Syndicate destroy Slow City.

“There are three aspects to creation. Analysis, which is breaking down already created stuff. Synthesis, which is recombining stuff in a variant way. And genesis, which is making something new. To accomplish genesis is rare. Sam, does genesis. He writes well. He has other great creators with him. Slow City Blues is a phenomenon. I contributed not much, but yelled at Sam a lot, and he thanked me, which speaks well of him or poorly of me. Honor this work. It deserves your attention,” said Shooter.

In a world of pure imagination, what could possibly go wrong?

Slow City Blues #1 will hit local comic shops on Wednesday, February 19.

Slow City Blues #1 will also be available for purchase across many digital platforms, including the official Image Comics iOS app, Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, comiXology, and Google Play.
