Camera Worn Like Wrist Watch Loads Thirty Six Pictures

"Latest in the line of miniature cameras is a tiny affair worn like a wrist watch. Sighted easily by raising the wrist to eye level, it carries a load of thirty-six exposures despite its diminutive size. It has an f4.5 lens and a focusing scale graduating from one foot to infinity."

Shoot to Kilfitt - 1969 Prototype Camera-Watch Sells for $60,000!

Shoot to Kilfitt - 1969 Prototype Camera-Watch Sells for $60,000!Like a Russian Matrioshka doll, these obscure vintage and antique camera watches keep appearing and gratefully outdo themselves with each layer of the photohorological onion.

The first that caught my attention was the 1950s Steineck ABC wrist camera, which in turn, turned me onto the world of subminiature spy camera watches and the surprising discovery of this 100+ year old secret photographic history starting with this 19th century pocket watch camera.

And just when I thought I've seen them all, this
UKA 659 model by Kilfitt kills them all with a single 1969 prototype that never went into production and recently sold on eBay for nearly $60,000 (US). Update! It seems to have been relisted and is currently at $58,000 --> Auction Link

No Time For a 19th Century English Bicycle Wrist-Horn & 21st Century Wristcam

No Time For a 19th Century English Bicycle Wrist-Horn & 21st Century WristcamYes, I know, I'm off topic again, but when products are invented for the wrist, I just can't resist.

This antique Victorian (1880-1890) English bicycle horn predates most wristwatches and looks quite difficult to blow while riding the awkward 19th century Penny Farthing bicycles of the same time (shown below).

to blow your little horn buddy!

And since I'm feeling so un-timely today here is a modern wrist gadget by German product designer Tim Zurmoehle. Called "Watch!", a cool prototype digital wristcam.

I dig tubes...

1970 Sipe Steinheil Digital Spy Camera Watch

1970 Sipe Steinheil Digital Spy Camera Watch
I swear this is my last Spy-Camera-Watch posting for a while...But since so many different variations have existed over the past 120 years, great vintage examples keep appearing. This particular one is of the Quartz age, a 1970 SIPE LED digital watch with Steinheil 2.5/12mm lens, for 7 exposures on special cassette. Actually, it appears to be a Dynamic Scattering Liquid Crystal Display, the earliest form of LCD developed in the late sixties. Either way, it's being auctioned from the WestLicht Photographia Auction House (lot 671). Or on Ebay here-->Link

Victorian 1886 Spy Camera Pocket Watch

Victorian 1886 Spy Camera Pocket Watch
An update to my original vintage subminiature spy watch-cameras post (link) the other week with this remarkable find (Thanks to Alex at QP). This 1886 Victorian Lancaster Pocket Watch Camera predates what I thought to be the first camera watch in 1907. It just sold at a Bonhams auction for £18,000

From Bonhams;

The Lancaster Ladies Watch Camera was brought into Bonhams by a gentleman whose grandfather had owned it originally. He was a cabinetmaker at the Birmingham-based firm J. Lancaster & Son, probably working on the many wooden cameras sold by the company. The vendor, consigning several watches to one of Bonhams’ sales, noticed that among his collection was what looked like an ordinary nickel-plated pocket watch case when closed – but when he opened it he discovered that it actually contained a tiny camera inside.

Lionel Hughes, Bonhams’ Camera Specialist, was delighted to come across the piece:
“This is a truly exceptional piece, and the price achieved at Bonhams today reflects this,” he explained. “The Lancaster Watch Camera was patented in October 1886 and made until 1890. Such tiny cameras were the forerunners for the ‘spy’ camera – a mechanism disguised as a different object. However, it would have been very inconvenient to use as four very small catches had to be released in order to remove the glass screen and to fit a separate metal sensitised material holder for each exposure. As a result, the model sadly sold badly and is much rarer than the improved version which came on the market in 1890. The ladies’ pattern is therefore particularly special, and only four original models are known to exist."
