Wrist Barbell - Desotos Cuff Busting Chrono

Wrist Barbell - Desotos Cuff Busting Chrono
If a watch could kick your ass and take your lunch money, this is the bully who'd do it. Only he'd go home and make out with your mom afterwards.

This bad motha is the early 1970's 60mm asymmetrical Desotos Chronograph, fitted with Valjoux 7734 mechanical movement. Super superwide case that, I can only imagine, was created to stick out of your ultrawide 70's cuffs without pushing those stiff polyester sleeves. Not like they'd get wrinkled if you did...

This watch is even too butch for Shaft. Shut yo mouth...

Mid-Century Modern Gadget - Mortima Thermometer Compass Watch

Mid-Century Modern Gadget - Mortima Thermometer Compass Watch

According to Pieter Doensen's book, Mortima created these steel spiral bimetal thermometer compass wristwatches in 1956. I've seen a few others made by Continental.

This one has the original band with bark cut steel matching the case. If only it squirted poison gas, it might have been used in an early James Bond flick. Hmm, hey what's this button for anyway?...

Soon to come - post about the 1960's Gilbert Spymaster 007.
