Eris Planetary Sphere Watch by Pierre Junod - Post Neptunian Object Inspired Swiss Timepiece

Eris Planetary Sphere Watch by Pierre Junod - Post Neptunian Object Inspired Swiss TimepieceNamed for the largest known (and newly discoved) dwarf planet in the Solar System and the ninth-largest body known to orbit the Sun directly, Eris is approximately 2,500 kilometres in diameter and 27% more massive than Pluto. The spherical Eris watch is considerably smaller that that, in fact I broke my calculator trying to determine its 32.2mm percentage of the former planet. Eris would have been our tenth planet if Pluto hadn't been shamed into oblivion.

Either way, this watch, designed
by students from l’Ecole d’Arts Appliqués Genèva is a 100 % Swiss made product by Pierre Junod Switzerland and can be worn as a pocket watch, pendant or used as a small desk clock. The Materials are white hour hand & orange minute hand, anthracite anodized aluminum case, laser engraved figures, mineral glass, Swiss quartz movement, each watch is sold with a natural rubber strap to hang from your neck, a wall, anything you wish to have time fly by.

The time is displayed with two pointers (extended from hidden hands) floating around the "equator" of the globe. The minutes indicated on the upper hemisphere and the hours highlighted down below.

The Wristwatch - Born on a Woman's Wrist

The Wristwatch - Born on a Woman's WristIt's true, women were the first to adorn their wrists with time. Since the mid-19th century, with sporatic examples dating even further back (here), most ladies wristwatches were incorporated into bracelets, heavily jeweled, stylishly decorative, and quite often concealing their functions. Women were at least five decades if not more than a century ahead of the first mens Cartier Santos, a watch made for a pilot in the early 1900s. Ahead of the first military watches that placed strapped pocket watches onto a soldiers wrist.

This history has been beautifully documented in the extensive interactive exhibit, "Fine Watchmaking - A Tribute to Women", an exhibition from the 2007 SIHH. Examples from the show below and the complete online catalogue here-->LINK

And from the article, "Women and watches - A long standing love affair"

"The wristwatch conquers new fans

With the sleeveless dresses of the Directoire and Empire styles, the bracelet became a blank canvas on which jewelers could express their creativity. Some were inspired to incorporate a timepiece, proving that women, not men, were the first to wear their watch on their wrist. However, not everyone welcomed this innovation. Certain of its detractors even claimed that such small and doubtless fragile mechanisms would inevitably be damaged by the movements of the wrist.

This by no means discouraged Omega, which proposed wristwatches for men and women as of 1905. The watch was seen from a new angle, as a fashion accessory. Women were encouraged to own several and adapt them to their outfit and activities. When, in 1914, the women’s magazine Femina ran a poll of its readers, 3,437 of the 4,350 respondents said they preferred the wristwatch. After the First World War, both men and women adopted the wristwatch for its modern, sporting or avant-garde image. All eyes focused on Rolex when in 1927 Mercedes Gleitze swam the Channel with a waterproof Oyster strapped to her wrist. After the Second World War, society discovered mass consumption and an emphasis on well-being as never before. Life was once again a social whirl and luxury reinstated. Piaget was one of the first to create watches in a jewelery spirit, followed by Jaeger-LeCoultre and Chopard."

$500,000 Invisible Watch - Guy Ellia 'Tourbillon Zephir' by Christophe Claret

Famed movement designer Christophe Claret has teamed up with the exclusive French brand Guy Ellia for this unusual see-thru sapphire cased wristwatch. The mechanism including the tourbillon appear to float in-between the transparent plates allowing all motion to be viewed. Taking the skeletonized look to a new level, 'Ghost-inized'. See more at Claret's website-->Link as well as an animated video of the watch. Selling a bit over a half million dollars (390,000 Euros), I've heard that six have been sold already.

Internal Watch

Internal Watch
Designed by Leon Ransmeier for Vlaemsch ( ), this cocooned watch is encapsulated in leather rendering it non-functional as a timepiece. The designer explains, "The hidden watch transcends typical associations of status by isolating the emerging form rather than acting as a flashy signifier."

Although the identity of the encased watch is concealed, its contours suggest certain top-of-mind luxury cliches.

Diamond Skull Nixon Rotolog for Barneys NY

Diamond Skull Nixon Rotolog for Barneys NYYou're not gonna see me spotlight too much Bling here at The Watchismo Times...But this is a bit different. It's the Diamond Rotolog by Nixon. Their retro watch collection that borrows heavily from the 1970s Direct Read/Jump Hour style display (As I write about often here-->Link) and famously for their wood series which feature inlaid bamboo and teak.

Nixon has been featuring skull-print Rotologs exclusively at Barney's New York in recent months but now they stepped it up a carat. These are encrusted with 764 white diamonds and 1,087 black diamonds for the skull pattern, a stainless steel case, Japanese Quartz movement and LED lamp for lighting the spinning disc display.

Horological Hallucinogens by Zadora

Horological Hallucinogens by ZadoraDumbfounded and speechless. My first two reactions when first seeing these, um, er...Fancy wristwatches by Andreas Von Zadora Gerlof. An eccentric gem sculptor and metallurgist of everything from custom multi-million dollar chess sets for the Rothschild family to an upcoming exhibit of lifesize human skull gemstone sculptures.

But literally on hand now are these insane looking wristwatches. All one of a kind and priced at $150,000 each - also available for custom request if a pearl-swallowing snake or king fly isn't your cup of tea. Personally, I'd like to commission a bejeweled vomiting clown watch for my own personal reasons...

All the watches have drum-style sideviewing (display is on side of watchcase rotating with Roman numerals for approximate time) - semi-similar to Svend Andersen's Breguet inspired La Montre a Tact collection. The comparison ends there.

Horological Hallucinogens by ZadoraBaby turtles, gorging snakes and pirate skulls, oh my! (Enlarge)

OMEGAMANIA Preview #2 - Ursula Andress Grima Ring Watch

Ursala Andress...the original Bond girl and former owner of this jeweled Omega ring-watch by Andrew Grima, the force behind the 1969 'About Time' series for Omega. A designer of only one-of-a-kind watches including the radically futuristic (for its time) solid gold LEDs originally featured here --> Link

This 1972 ring-watch, like others by Rolex and LeCoultre, is built with very small mechanical movements but this vintage bling is iced with 28 diamonds, bark-finished platinum and a watch crystal of tourmaline. The expected price is on request only so I can only imagine...

It ain't that small at 26.5mm wide!

Giving You the Finger - Rolex & Jaeger LeCoultre Ring Watches

I wonder if it were socially acceptable to wear a watch on every appendage, would I..? Well, I'd likely start with one of these vintage 1950's ring watches. Very rare finger timepieces by LeCoultre and Rolex.

Above is a platinum & diamond set LeCoultre 'Duo-Plan' with an impossibly small dial & movement. Top-hinged for winding and setting of the watch.

Below is the 18k Rolex Precision with engine turned conical cover.

Now, when you give someone the finger, be considerate, tell them what time you want them to fuck off.
