Tickled Pink

This colour scheme, from a very sweet birthday party, featured on Shelter inspired me. It is getting towards February, where pink and red are colours of the season. Whether you love or loathe Valentine's Day, I do always enjoy the injection of colour in a regularly gloomy month. Anyway, back to the sweet shades of pink and red . . . .

Michael Penny featured these Emerson Made flower accessories on his blog today. I love the soft pink and yellow combinations. I featured Emerson Made here and here after discovering Emerson and Ryan's work through A Cup of Jo.

This is the Silk Betty Layered dress from Banana Republic. It's actually available in a Dark Steel, but I just love the Deep Rose shade. It makes me think of bright bursting Peonies in the spring!

It may sound silly, but I'm a sucker for really good pens - kind of like how Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks talk about bouquets of newly sharpened pencils in You've Got Mail. Maybe it's just a common teacher trait. Anyway, these Staedtler ones are my absolute favourites. Linking this in with my desire for all things poppy and pink today, I had to go buy a few this afternoon . . . .my pink one had died from overuse!

Last but not least, I've always loved the soft and subtle touches of hot pink in this Domino Magazine feature. I stumbled upon it while scouting through this feature on Apartment Therapy.

Same Room, Different Colours

This post on Apartment Therapy really caught my eye. How often do you play with the colours in your decor? Subtle, or not so subtle, changes to colour can really change the entire feeling of the room. I normally go for neutrals, but it was the punchy brights that alerted me to this post in the first place. The bright yellow reminds me of this favourite room.

Things for the Home

Although it wouldn't go with my decor at all, I really like this vintage-ish looking credenza. It's from CB2 and is called Archive. It sort of looks like an old filing cabinet. There's just something about it that I am so drawn to . . . .it must have an X factor.

I might spend a lot more time in my home office if I owned this Tango Office Chair from Structube. It's lovely, and I think the wide arms would boost the comfort level.

Smile it's Monday

Sometimes on Monday, it can be difficult to rally the troops of enthusiasm. I was thinking today how important it is not to always focus on TGIF, and how the mentality of "workin for the weekend" almost becomes ingrained in us. Here are a few web finds that made Monday more enjoyable.

This side table / dresser on Apartment Therapy is EXACTLY what I need. I am running out of storage space for clothes and this would do great double duty.

The new issue of Lonny is now online. Getting the email notification while heading home today certainly made me smile!

I always find Reese Witherspoon's sense of style so refreshing and her wardrobe so enviable. The image on the far right caught my eye today on People.com - I just love the brown leather boots with the navy pea coat!

This silk Vivie top is in my Shopping Bag on the J. Crew website . . . if only I could justify making my shopping bag switch from virtual to real life.

New Year, New Design Itch

My New Years resolution is to make sure throughout 2011 that I am taking time to do the things that make me happy. Frequently in 2010 I got caught up in feeling busy or overwhelmed and lost balance with enjoying the day to day. I sometimes stock up on a few days of enjoyment (friends, family, running, movies, shopping, reading, coffee dates, blogging) and then I get bogged down and tell myself I'm too tired to do anything but sit around and list off all of the things that are making me tired. So I would like more consistency in 2011 I guess. So here we go!

Because I was blessed with two amazing family members who were very generous at Christmas, I am not really in a shopping mood. Instead I woke up wanting to get some design inspiration for 2011. Here is a great home that was posted on Apartment Therapy in November! Enjoy!

Light Bright

Sometimes, I just need a little dose of bright colour to not get bogged down by the dull days of winter. The "dull" days are those that do not include fluffy snow or bright twinkle lights but rather the November days that just seem overcast, chilly, and gray. Here are a couple images to spread a little colour cheer!

Douglas and Matthew's modern apartment featured here on Apartment Therapy caught my eye because of the gorgeous exposed brick. I also love the Eames style chairs and the clean simple decor. The credenza / tv cupboard is from Ikea and I have the same one in my living room. I love that it is clean cut, streamlined, and doesn't actually look like a tv stand - because in all honesty, most tv stands are beyond hideous.

Have a relaxing Sunday!

Bella's Kitchen was featured on The Kitchn (yes it's spelled that way) in August. I stumbled upon it this afternoon and I am quite smitten. Bella, her husband, and son live in Brooklyn, NY.

I love the open shelving, the high glossy whites, the blue and green accents, those incredible light fixtures, and of course the stainless elements. What a great space.

Tommy Smythe - Apartment Therapy

Tommy Smythe - Apartment Therapy

Tommy Smythe is a formidable talent with a truly engaging personality. As Sarah Richardson's right hand man, he is well known and sought after in Toronto's interior design network. I was delighted to see, that after being featured in several Canadian publications, Tommy's small space in Rosedale was featured on Apartment Therapy for all the world to enjoy. Although his choices differ greatly from my own, he has a wonderful sense of style and it reflects his love of mixing old and new, mostly high with a little low (as Sarah would regularly tease him about on Sarah's House).

There are some days when I just want to sing the praises of Apartment Therapy from the rooftops! This is one of those days. After visiting Jen Ramos' blog, I fell in love with the photos of this Greenwich Village home.

Featured in an extensive slideshow on Apartment Therapy, this home possesses many of the things I adore. Creamy neutrals, modern lines, comfy spots to land, many books, excellent industrial lighting, stainless steel appliances, marble surfaces, beautiful artwork, and just a small touch of romance to round things out nicely. Come to think of it . . . with that list of attributes what's not to love?!?

I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I do!
