Soft and Sweet Fall 2012 at Jil Sander

Soft and Sweet Fall 2012 at Jil Sander
Jil Sander's Fall 2012 RTW Collection by Raf Simons is one that keeps catching my eye in magazines this month.  Every year there are a few pieces that get plenty of editorial space.  This year, many prints and patterns are getting due attention, but the two tone coat (above and below in different shades) in this collection trumps the aforementioned pattern play in my opinion.  The billowy sleeves and the generous volume of fabric in the body create a simple fashion cocoon.  I think that this coat is something that you could have in your closet forever, that you could wear whether 20 or 65.  There is something beautiful and timeless about a well cut coat.  Below, are several more pieces that stuck out for me in this collection.  I was especially drawn to the soft knits and pale colours that were chosen when, typically, designers come out with the deep plum, green, black, brown, and red shades in droves.  Do you like soft colours in the fall?

J. Crew Summer Cravings

Vintage Cotton Sequin Tank, shown in heathered stone but I really love the vintage fatigue colour, I think it would suit my colouring better.

Silk Henley Top in Popsicle Pink is so juicy and fun, light with barely there sleeves but sophisticated silk. Lovely!

Sperry Top Sider Original Authentic 2-eye boat shoes in twill - colour electric orange - sigh these were made for me but they are sold out of my size.

Summer Hours Dress from J. Crew is the perfect combination of sweet and professional. I would love to order this for work. You could pair it with a short sleeved cardigan on days where there was a bit of a cool breeze.

Juicy Reds, Oranges, Pinks, and Corals!

It's funny how you can get a fashion craving . . . well at least I seem to be able to. Lately I've been wanting to build a section of my wardrobe devoted to juicy summer colours. We had quite balmy weather in Ontario today, bookended by thunderstorms last night and tonight, and I want to match the warm temperature with hot colours! Here's what I found:

Nomadic Thread Society Sarong Towel in Glam Pink Stripe sold through Madewell.

Zara Strappy Dress - simple style with a juicy fruit punch!

Lula Ballet Flats from J. Crew shown in Electric Orange. I think these are just to die for!

Paddywax Candle available through Indigo / Chapters. Hopefully the scent is as pretty as the tin!

Tibi Sleeveless Dress in Fire - available through Shopbop.

Bold or Girly?

I'm not one for a fussy bedroom, and I don't like it to look particularly feminine. However, I do think that the bold pinks here are gorgeous. Depending on the circumstances, who you were sharing the room with, I might stick to the geometric / ikat patterns in the pillows and lean towards nudes and greys, but overall I think it works. The pink is a bold enough tone that it doesn't scream girly boudoire! Photo captured by Susan Gilmore for Renovation Style and featured on Canadian House and Home blog here.
