Dark Horse Comics’ “The Crash Bandicoot Files” Book Confirmed

Crash™ fans are in for the ultimate challenge today! Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (NASDAQ: ATVI), announced during the Crash Bandicoot™ Then and Now panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego that new content is available for Crash Bandicoot™ N. Sane Trilogy. Stormy Ascent  -- a previously unfinished and unreleased level from the original Crash Bandicoot™ game – will be available for free(1) today starting at Noon PT.  Also announced today is the upcoming The Crash Bandicoot™ Files: How Willy the Wombat Sparked Marsupial Mania, a hard cover book from Dark Horse Comics featuring the original design document for Crash Bandicoot. Additionally, fans can now send each other Crash Bandicoot emojis by downloading the free CrashMoji™ app.

“The fan response to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has been tremendous with the title landing at number one worldwide in physical game sales, even though it was only on shelves for two days in June (2). We’re thrilled that there seems to be a whole lot of people out there who love Crash as much we do,” said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision. “To thank Crash fans, we’re excited to release Stormy Ascent, the infamous unfinished level from the original game for the very first time. And it’s free to fans for the first month. We look forward to watching some epic speed runs online!”

The notorious Stormy Ascent level was not finished and not released in the original Crash Bandicoot. Activision’s team at Vicarious Visions completed it, and for the first time, players who own the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy can get their hands on the full level by downloading it from the PlayStation® Store free of charge for 30 days(1) starting today at Noon PT through August 19. Stormy Ascent will challenge even the most hardcore Crash fans with vial-throwing lab assistants, flying birds, retracting steps, iron spikes, and much more!

"Finally seeing Crash fans have the chance to play Stormy Ascent all these years later is very exciting,” said Shuhei Yoshida, President of PlayStation’s Worldwide Studios. "Activision has done an amazing job remastering the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, and fans are really going to enjoy this never-before-released Crash level.  I can’t wait to see the leader boards light up, because even speed runners will be in for a tough challenge with this one.”

Also today, Dark Horse Comics confirmed the upcoming availability of The Crash Bandicoot Files: How Willy the Wombat Sparked Marsupial Mania. The original design document for Crash Bandicoot, the 150-page hard cover book features original concept illustrations and insight into how Crash Bandicoot came to be the iconic videogame character he is today. Featuring a foreword from Crash’s creators, the book will delight fans when it debuts in March 2018.

“We are proud to partner with Activision to share The Crash Bandicoot Files with Crash Bandicoot fans next year,” said Ian Tucker, editor, Dark Horse Comics. “We think fans will love seeing how Crash Bandicoot evolved from wombat concept to bandicoot execution, all in a beautiful hardcover book filled with never-before-seen art and filled with insightful commentary from the designers.”

Additionally, Loot Crate confirmed today that they are celebrating some of the greatest treasure hunts in gaming with great Bandicoot Booty not available anywhere else -- an exclusive Crash Bandicoot T-shirt.  Featured in the July crate is a postcard-style T-shirt straight from N. DARK HORSE AND FOX PUT THE “ALIEN” IN ALIEN DAY

Dark Horse and Fox to release new “Alien: Dead Orbit” series and “Aliens: The Original Comics Series” Volume 2 on April 26, 2017

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (October 5, 2016)—In collaboration with 20th Century Fox and in honor of Aliens Day 2017, Dark Horse is excited to announce its next developments in the beloved Aliens franchise: Aliens: Dead Orbit and Aliens: The Original Comics Series Volume 2.

Aliens: Dead Orbit finds Wascylewsk, an engineering officer, trapped in a space station after a horrific accident. Wascylewsk is forced to use all available tools—a timer, a utility kit, and his wits—to survive an attack from the deadliest creature known to man. James Stokoe (Wonton Soup, Orc Stain) writes and illustrates the series. Geof Darrow (The Shaolin Cowboy, The Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot) will provide a variant cover for the first issue.

Following the highly successful release of Aliens: The Original Comic Series earlier this year, volume 2 finds Earth overrun by xenomorphs, with no hope of saving it for humanity. This doesn’t mean humans are ready to give up their home without a fight. Ripley hatches a plan to capture a “Queen Mother”—a super queen that rules multiple nests—and bring it back to Earth. Ripley believes the Queen Mother will command the xenomorphs to gather together where she can detonate a nuclear bomb to destroy them. Mark Verheiden (The Mask, Timecop) composed the stories while Den Beauvais (Aliens, Aliens: Countdown) and Sam Kieth (The Sandman, The Maxx) illustrated the interiors. Aliens: The Original Comics Series Volume 2 collects Aliens: Nightmare Asylum #1–#4 and Aliens: Female War #1–#4, and includes cover art for all issues in a special oversized hardcover edition.

Aliens: Dead Orbit’s first issue (of four) goes on sale on April 26, 2017. Aliens: The Original Comics Series Volume 2 also goes on sale April 12, 2017.

DARK HORSE ADAPTS “AMERICAN GODS” INTO COMIC BOOK AND GRAPHIC NOVEL FORMAT

Neil Gaiman’s award-winning novel to be adapted into comic series in 2017

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (October 5, 2016)—Today, Dark Horse is excited to announce the adaptation of American Gods into comic book form. Originally published in 2001 by William Morrow and Headline, American Gods is a Hugo and Nebula Award–winning novel by Neil Gaiman (How to Talk to Girls at Parties, The Sandman). North American rights were acquired from Gaiman’s literary agent, Merrilee Heifetz at Writers House. American Gods is the latest Gaiman adaptation from Dark Horse, preceded by graphic novel adaptations of How to Talk to Girls at Parties, Troll Bridge, Forbidden Brides, and many more. Starz will also premiere an American Gods TV show in spring 2017, adapted by Bryan Fuller (NBC's Hannibal, CBS’s Star Trek: Discovery).

Dark Horse tapped P. Craig Russell (The Sandman: The Dream Hunters)—who, having worked on Coraline and The Graveyard Book, is no stranger to adapting Neil Gaiman’s work—to adapt and co-write the comic series, while Scott Hampton (Hellboy, Batman) lends his illustrative skills to the complex world Gaiman created. Glenn Fabry (Preacher) and Adam Brown (Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens) create the hauntingly beautiful cover art. David Mack (Kabuki, Fight Club 2) and Dave McKean (Black Dog, Cages) provide variant covers for the first issue. The American Gods comic series will feature guest interior art by Walt Simonson (Thor), Mark Buckingham (Fables), Colleen Doran (The Sandman), P. Craig Russell, and more.

American Gods creator Neil Gaiman explained his excitement for the upcoming American Gods adaptations: “There’s a tremendous amount of excitement, in my house and in the world, about the American Gods TV series coming up on Starz. What we’ve managed to keep a secret until now is that there is something just as exciting out there: American Gods, the comic. I’ve been watching P. Craig Russell breaking down the book into comic form, watching Scott Hampton painting the pages, watching Glenn Fabry create the covers, and grinning to myself with delight, because the American Gods comic is going to be an astonishing, faithful, and beautiful adaptation.”

American Gods: Shadows #1 finds Shadow Moon released from jail only to discover his wife has died. Broken and uncertain about his future, Shadow Moon meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, who employs him to serve as his bodyguard. This fateful decision thrusts Shadow into a deadly supernatural world where ghosts of the past come back from the dead, and a brewing war between old and new gods hits a boiling point.

Dark Horse will adapt American Gods into twenty-seven single issues with three story arcs: Shadows, My Ainsel, and The Moment of the Storm, to be collected into three hardcover graphic novels. The first issue of American Gods: Shadows goes on sale March 15, 2017.

“New York Times” best-selling author returns to Dark Horse

MILWAUKIE, OR—Dark Horse Comics is proud to announce the reunion of Harvey-nominated writer Fred Van Lente (Brain Boy, Conan the Avenger, Resurrectionists) and illustrator Guiu Vilanova (Conan the Avenger) on a new creator-owned comics series—Weird Detective!

Cthulhu cops, the Innsmouth Mafia, telepathic cats, and other crimes against sanity stalk the streets of New York in this pulpy stew of crime, horror, and mystery from the writer of Marvel Zombies and X-Men Noir.

The city has been plagued by a pattern of crimes too weird and bizarre for the average detective. Lurking in the evidence are shadows of loathsome horrors from beyond space and time, seeking to usher in the unimaginable evil of the Old Ones. The only man capable of fighting against the unspeakable terrors isn’t a man at all. Detective Sebastian Greene is one of them—it takes a monster to catch a monster.

“I love H. P. Lovecraft, I love cop shows, and their unholy bastard child is Weird Detective,” Van Lente says. “Seeing cosmic horror at the street crime level opens up both genres to incredible new possibilities. Sebastian Greene is just the person to be your guide through this dangerous world, even as his own partner tries to figure out his dark secret.”

The first issue of Weird Detective contains all twenty-four pages of its three-part debut in Dark Horse Presents, plus twenty-two brand-new pages—all for the regular cover price of $3.99.

The genre-bending five-issue miniseries includes colors by Dark Horse newcomer Maurício Wallace.

Weird Detective launches on June 15. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop.

Press Release - Whedonverse Enters Tenth Season - Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith

PRESS RELEASE

NYCC: WHEDONVERSE ENTERS TENTH SEASON!

Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel & Faith Return in 2014!

New York NY – Announced at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse is bringing the Whedonverse into it’s tenth season with the help of fan favorite authors, Christos Gage and Victor Gischler.

“In Buffy, Season 10 is going to be about bringing friendships back together, while in Angel & Faith, relationships are shattered. Magic is starting to come back into the world, but in some surprising ways, like that vampire we saw standing in the sunlight at the end of Season 9,” says Editor in Chief Scott Allie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 is slated for 30 issues, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Rebekah Issacs, with covers by long time series artist, Steve Morris.

“The Buffyverse community has been wonderfully welcoming to Rebekah and me. It's a tremendous honor for Joss and Dark Horse to trust us with their flagship book, and we are going to do all we can to be worthy of that trust. It's a new season, with new rules...but hopefully the same blend of love, action, horror, humor and creativity that's made Buffy and her Scoobies part of all our families. We hope you'll join us for the ride,” states Christos Gage

Angel & Faith is also slated for a 30 issue run, written by Victor Gischler and illustrated by Will Conrad, with covers by Scott Fischer.

"I was proud and privileged to have a small part in season nine, and I can't express how grateful I am to have an expanded role in season ten. Buffy the Vampire Slayer remains an iconic television show, and the Dark Horse comics continue that great tradition. I plan on having a lot of fun." Says Angel & Faith series writer Victor Gischler

“I'm very happy that our Angel & Faith artist has hopped over to Buffy, allowing our Buffy artist to jump over to Serenity. And to make the game of musical chairs complete, the guy who draw the first two Serenity miniseries is back in the loop, taking over Angel & Faith. These are all artists Joss and the writers and I are comfortable working with, and who are cozy with these characters, so it's nice to shake things up a bit while having a lot of confidence in what these artists can do. And I'm so happy to have Will back,” adds Scott Allie.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 10 #1 hits stands March 19th and Angel & Faith Season 10 #1 is on sale April 2nd in comic shops everywhere!

ZACK WHEDON WRITES THE CANONICAL FOLLOW UP TO THE FILM!

NEW YORK, NY – Dark Horse Comics confirmed at New York Comic Con plans to continue the cult classic story line directly following the film. With executive producer Joss Whedon behind the helm, the comic series is sure to have fans clamoring to check it out.

“We've been dying to get more Serenity out ever since the book Joss and Zack wrote. We all loved Zack's work on Shepherd's Tale, and couldn't wait to get him back into the mix. This story is the first giant step past the film, after the big damn heroes stuck a big middle finger in the face of the Alliance,” notes Editor in Chief Scott Allie, “Zack establishes new ground rules for these characters. He nails the voices, takes the relationships to the next level, and just gives us all the best space romp since the film Joss made …”

With artwork by Georges Jeanty (Buffy Season 8 & 9), covers by Dan Dos Santos (Tomb Raider) and script by Zach Whedon (The Terminator) – Serenity returns as a cornerstone of Dark Horse’s 2014 lineup!

Malcolm Reynolds’s crew shook the ’verse to its core when they laid bare the crimes against humanity undertaken by their sinister government—the Alliance. Always outlaws, Mal, a very pregnant Zoe, new pilot River Tam, and the other surviving crew members are in greater danger than ever, and everyone’s asking the same question . . .

“As a science fiction story, Serenity has it all.”—Broken Frontier

Press Release - Dark Horse Announces Bad Blood by Jonathan Maberry

PRESS RELEASE

NYCC: DARK HORSE ANNOUNCES BAD BLOOD!

FROM BRAM STOKER WINNER JONATHAN MABERRY

OCTOBER 10, NEW YORK, NY—As announced today at New York Comic Con, Dark Horse is set to publish a new creator-owned series from Bram Stoker Award winner Jonathan Maberry (Ghost Road Blues)—Bad Blood! With art by the Eisner Award–winning Tyler Crook (B.P.R.D., The Sixth Gun), this five-issue miniseries promises a vampire tale with an unlikely hero.

Being bitten by a vampire pissed him off, but seeing his best friend brutally slaughtered started a war. Trick Croft was an average college student—sort of—until vampires attacked. Then he found out his blood was poison to the bloodsuckers. And Trick will do anything to eradicate them.

Bad Blood tells the story of Trick, a teenage slacker on the losing side of a fight with cancer. When he’s attacked by a vampire, he figures it’s game over. Except that the chemo drugs in Trick’s blood poison the vampire. As punishment, the vampires begin slaughtering everyone Trick loves. So he goes hunting for the vamps to try to destroy them,” writer Jonathan Maberry explains. “His only superpower? The chemo drugs in his system are deadly to the undead. His only ally? A heroin-addicted Goth chick. Bad Blood brings the pain in a downbeat tale of heartbreak, loss, and courage.”

Bad Blood #1 (of 5) is on sale January 1, 2014, in comic shops everywhere!
