The Qwillery is 6 and other things - October 1, 2014

The Qwillery is 6 years old today. For me, that is hard to believe. As I've mentioned on previous anniversaries, the blog originally was not devoted to books. That changed in May 2010. It's gone from a one person operation to now include additional reviewers. A big thank you to Melanie, Tracey, Brannigan, Doreen, and Stacey. They are all fabulous reviewers and enrich my experience at The Qwillery every day.

We're gearing up for New York Comic Con (NYCC), which is next week. Today is the start of Paranormal Mystery Month in which authors answer 1 question: "How do you or one of your characters celebrate Halloween?" More on that later. We'll be hosting an Anniversary Giveaway after NYCC. This is the 4th year of the Debut Author Challenge. Melanie writes her fabulous Week in Review every week. Brannigan has started his Retro Reviews feature. We have more fun things planned for you over the next year. Oh, and we're nearing 1 million pageviews (987,265 as of a few minutes ago).

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you who read, comment, stop by and support The Qwillery. Thank you to all the wonderful authors who answer my questions every year and write amazing and interesting blog posts. The Qwillery would not be what it is without all of you. Here's to another 6 years and more.

The Qwillery is 5!

The Qwillery is 5!

Dear Readers,

The Qwillery is 5 years old today!

The Qwillery was not originally a speculative fiction blog, but became one in middle of 2010 and The Qwillery has evolved over time, adding the yearly Debut Author Challenge, ParaCozyMysMo, and recently reviewers. The Qwillery will continue to evolve. The traditional gift for a 5th Anniversary is wood. Since most paper is made from wood pulp, it is remarkably appropriate for The Qwillery. We'll be celebrating throughout the month with giveaways!

Today I just want to say thank you to The Qwillery's readers and followers. We've had over 609,000 pageviews (the vast majority since the blog changed its focus in 2010). We have over 5000 followers via various channels (RSS, email, Twitter, Facebook, etc.). We have had visitors from almost every country on the planet. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

I'd like to thank my reviewers - Melanie, Trinitytwo and Rebe for coming on board and helping improve The Qwillery. I am deeply grateful to each of you for the help and support you give me with the blog.

While there have been times in the last 2 years that I was not sure the blog would survive due to real life issues, I am so glad that you all stuck with The Qwillery and are here to celebrate the first 5 years with me. I hope that all of you are with me for the next 5 years and beyond.

Sincerely,

Sally / Qwill

The Qwillery is looking for reviewers!

A recent family emergency has made me realize that it is time to bring in some reviewers. As much as I'd love to review everything myself, I can't especially with blog administration taking a tremendous amount of time and other commitments. Please fill out the form if you are interested in being part of The Qwillery team. After reviewing form submissions, I will be in touch with those people who would be a good fit for The Qwillery. Thank you!

Thank you for your time and consideration!

The Qwillery is 3 - October 1, 2011

The Qwillery is three years old today. I didn't start out to write about books, but as the blog has evolved that's what happened.   I look at The Qwillery as a work in progress. I will always try to make it better.

The Qwillery is 3 - October 1, 2011

Later this month I'll be announcing a number of celebratory giveaways. I may vlog them like I did last year.

Thank you to everyone who reads The Qwillery. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Some Tweaks to The Qwillery - November 12, 2010

I've been asked to provide a way to subscribe to The Qwillery via email. If you look to the sidebar on the right you will now see a "Subscribe Via Email" box. Enter your email address and Feedburner will do the rest. You will have to enter a code to make sure you are not a bot. After that you will receive a confirmation email from Feedburner. You will then have to activate your subscription by clicking on the link. And viola, you will receive future posts to The Qwillery via email. If you prefer you can subscribe via RSS feed. The feed has been there since the blog started, but is now provided by Feedburner.

I've also added an FTC Notification in the sidebar. You can find that by scrolling down a bit.

There will also be some additional changes down the blogging road in a bit.

Thanks for reading!

Giveaways and Entries

I love to read (obviously) and I also really love to share books by giving them away. I've been wondering about giveaways though. Not the actual giveaways but the way entries are acquired. Presently commenters can get extra entries for Tweeting, posting on Facebook, being a follower, etc.

So I have some questions:

Do you like being able to get extra entries?

Would you prefer entries only be given for comments?

Should followers only be given an extra entry?

It seems like an ok thing to let people get extra entries by promoting the giveaway. But it is just promotion on behalf of The Qwillery, which bothers me a bit. All this FBing, tweeting, etc. seems like a lot of work for commenters. One entry per comment seems easier.

Tell me what you think.
