New York Comic Con 2012, Part 2 - October 13, 2013

Saturday at New York Comic Con was incredibly busy. I did attend some panels and there will be more on that in another post. In this post I'm mostly going to share pictures that I took while walking around and at the panels. If you ever have the opportunity to come to New York Comic Con, you should!

New York Comic Con 2012, Part 1 - October 12, 2012

I arrived at New York Comic Con 2012 yesterday morning. There were lines snaking here and there in front of the Javits Center. Bigger lines than I'd ever seen. Wow! Inside the Con the set up had been changed as well.  Artist Alley is at the North end of the Javits Center in it own cavernous room. Signing Tables are downstairs making it easy to find them and eliminating the huge lines that used to snake onto the main floor when the signing tables were upstairs. For the Signing Tables, fans bring their own books to sign and memorabilia to be signed. This change may have happened last year, but I had a truncated visit to NY Comic Con 2011 so can't say definitely. The main exhibitor floor has spread into what used to Artist Alley. All in all my initial impression is that New York Comic Con is bigger and better than ever!

Yesterday I concentrated mainly on the literary aspects of the Con. I listened to some panels (which I will do again today). I also met some amazing authors.

I picked up a present for my son. It's a limited edition Squidqueen by the wonderfully talented Ben Templesmith.

The Girl in the Steel Corset - Book Release Party

Yesterday, June 4th, I had the pleasure of attending the book release party for The Girl in the Steel Corset (Steampunk Chronicles 1) by Kady Cross.

The Girl in the Steel Corset - Book Release Party
In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the "thing" inside her.

When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….

Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special, says she's one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.

Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help—and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.

But The Machinist wants to tear Griff's little company of strays apart, and it isn't long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she's on—even if it seems no one believes her.

I also had the opportunity to view a book by Dr. Grymm that will be released next month, 1000 Steampunk Creations: Neo-Victorian Fashion, Gear, and Art. It looks fantastic, and I've pre-ordered a copy.

I picked up a couple of copies of The Girl in the Steel Corset, which Kady signed. One of those copies will be given away at The Qwillery in the not too distant future.

2011 Book Expo America - My Day 2 - Photos

Day 2 of BEA (May 25) was really jam-packed for me. I met a lot of authors, saw a book trailer debut, played with the new KOBO, and had another amazing day. Here are photos of some of the many authors I had the pleasure of meeting. Some of these authors will be visiting The Qwillery over the next few months. Who would you like to see here?

Nerdscape for Kevin - April 30, 2011

Kevin Hearne challenged folks to create either a Nerdscape or Beerscape for a chance to win a copy (a signed copy!) of his debut novel, Hounded. The deets can be found at Kevin's site here.

Here is my entry. It's titled The Good, The Bad, and The Chips.

This Nerdscape features King Gidorah, Mothra, Megatron, The Strange Affair of Spring Heeled Jack, and a bag of chips. (I'm obviously much better at taking photos of flowers!)
